Here's why for those wondering. *ehem* ;)

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070313/ap_on_go_co/us_iraq

The Iran-related proposal stemmed from a desire to make sure Bush did not launch an attack without going to Congress for approval, but drew opposition from numerous members of the rank and file in a series of closed-door sessions last week.

Rep. Shelley Berkley (news, bio, voting record), D-Nev., said in an interview that there is widespread fear in Israel about Iran, which is believed to be seeking nuclear weapons and has expressed unremitting hostility about the Jewish state.

"It would take away perhaps the most important negotiating tool that the U.S. has when it comes to Iran," she said of the now-abandoned provision. :eyes:

"I didn't think it was a very wise idea to take things off the table if you're trying to get people to modify their behavior and normalize it in a civilized way," said Rep. Gary Ackerman (news, bio, voting record), D-N.Y.

My points were primarily -

1. We trusted Bush with "negotiations" in Iraq, and look where that got us. Also, trusting a madman to "negotiate" is insane as well.
2. I'd rather be splintered and FIGHTING then united and cowering.
3. If voters don't think we can stand up to Republicans how the F will they trust us to defend against terrorism?
4. Any Democrats who did not support the Iran provision should be on the record voting AGAINST it.
5. Just added one when I called Hoyer ;) >>> Voters did not elect Democrats to DEFEND Israel.
6. We should not let Dick Cheney define the terms of the debate.

Phone numbers below:

1 (415) 556-4862
1 (202) 225-4965

On edit call Hoyer too, my guess is that he's been instrumental in cowering?

Call and urge Hoyer and Pelosi's office to "REINSTATE the IRAN provision."

1 (301) 474-0119

FLOOD THE LINES people. Remember, they work for US!

Thanks! :patriot: Please K and R.

2. I just did. The phones must be ringing off the wall in there!
The kind young man suggested going to the web site to look for a press release that might explain why she did this. You might think that he would find the answer if so many are calling! Peace, Kim

5. Screw the press release. They can hear from me.
:hi: The rationale was to be "united." F, that let the cowards go on the record. We did not elect Democrats to "protect Israels interests."

11. frickin call Shelley Berkley and her cohorts
I think Pelosi would support the provision, just not in this bill as she believes it would doom the effort. What is the obsession here with losing battles? What happened to the importance of passing the Iraq withdrawal legislation.

To provide 'opposition' she needs to gather an adequate number of votes. That's her correctly exercising her role as manager. Leave our Speaker to do her job on Iraq and leave the harrassment to the republicans.

17. If this is so , she could explain that in plain English.
I for one think the fear of proposing reasonable legislation that MIGHT be voted down is wasted energy. We need to roll with it and let the Republics go on record as voting down solutions to America's problems! People are dieing every minute that we fart around out here.

13. We didn't say Congress couldn't vote to attack Iran!
What is she talking about?

"It would take away perhaps the most important negotiating tool that the U.S. has when it comes to Iran," she said of the now-abandoned provision.

*ush is a loose cannon and we need to stop him from getting us involved in any more killing. That is the problem! When is she going to get it straight that *ush does not negotiate with anyone! He kills and loves it and we should be running like *ell in the other direction!

24. Pelosi is speaking at the aipac meeting this evening... but first they had...
Rev Hagee Keynote speaker Sunday Night... extreme right-wing nutball, (not "moderate" like Pat Robertson). Wants the US/Israel to attack Iran... now! So Jesus will come back.

Dick Cheney... who said congresspeople who oppose bush are helping terrorists... yadda yadda

Then they had Prime Minister Olmert. man who ordered the dropping of One Million Cluster Bomblets on Lebanon (still killing kids today) He said that early US withdraw from Iraq would hurt Israel. (and profits, btw... Israel just made a killing (pun intended) off the selling of armored vehicles to the US military)

Early Iraq withdrawal will cause regional instability
