2. I just can't like him. |

To me, he always comes off as smug and egotistical, sneering at the common folk.

To Bill Maher, it's the "common folk" that got George Bush elected.
It's the "common folk" that are blindly accepting of McCain/Palin.
It's the "common folk" that think a candidate's qualities are "he's a guy I can have a beer with. He's just like me", instead of the "common folk" actually doing their due diligence and asking the tough questions.
It's the "common folk" that vote on a candidate because they like him, they can be his friend, instead of whether or not he can do the freaking job.
It's the "common folk" that believe everything they are told without questioning it.
It's the "common folk" that are easily swayed by what see and read on the MSM.

7. The "common folks" are f*cking it all up for all us with their asinine |
|
voting habits. Only fools would've fell for the swift boating of John Kerry and put the coward that lied to their face about a war, back into the white house. Bill Marher was right this country loves war, the people love it, both partys talk about more war. Iraq is the republican war and Afghanistan is the democrats war. On top of that it seems a lot of the citizens are getting a boner about going to war with Russia over a Georgia, country that most people probably didn't even know existed 3 months ago.

9. I find that kind of reasoning lazy |

and arrogant. People in America aren't any stupider than people anywhere else. They have been conditioned, very deliberately, to be intellectually incurious and to value the wrong kinds of achievement. It would be more productive to address that, and to make useful suggestions for changing that, than to roll one's eyes and sneer, as Maher does. Who is he anyway? An unsuccessful comic who somehow convinced people he is qualified to talk politics. He makes me tired.
