Doc Lists Attorneys "in The Process of Being Pushed Out"

By Paul Kiel - March 13, 2007, 1:07 PM

See it for yourself, the September 13, 2006 email from Alberto Gonzales' chief of staff, Kyle Sampson, to Justice Department liaison to White House counsel Harriet Miers.

Fifteen minutes earlier, Sampson had sent the same email to the Justice Department's liaison to the White House, Monica Goodling, asking "Any corrections?" before sending it over.

In the email, Sampson outlines the "USAs We Now Should Consider Pushing Out." They were: Arizona's Paul Charlton, San Diego's Carol Lam, Western Michigan's Margaret Chiara, Nevada's Daniel Bogden, and Seattle's John McKay. All five were eventually fired. Arkansas' Bud Cummins had his own heading, "USA in the Process of Being Pushed Out."

In the summary portion of the email, Griffin lays out his recommendation to use a legal loophole to install replacements without Senate confirmation.

I have NEVER seen Gonzales as he was today at that Press Conference. He fumbled and stumbled...even looked like he might shed a few at the beginning. IMO, he's scared shitless. He's gonna be up to his ass in subpoenas.

1. You're right about Alberto. It's unclear why he called
that "press conference."

6. This is how important 2006 was!
The treasonous, rat bastards would have continued pulling the same old shit...WITH ABSOLUTELY NO OVERSIGHT! I want to know where the outrage is towards the Repubs that allowed all of this to happen. They CONTROLLED everything on Capitol Hill. I want THEM held accountable, as well.

10. yeah I think the GOP vote rigging didn't work out in 2006
wonder what went wrong? Too many people watching the voting machines I would imagine or maybe someone lost the 'election stealing program' that should have been in key seats for them. I begin to wonder?

13. Actually it did work. WE know of 14 contested congressional elections which look stolen.
but so MANY people voted dem that the numbers they stole were not enough.

5. That is my take as well.... what he just did makes no sense....
Consider this: What could take the focus off this issue? It would have to be something big, possibly tragic. And Gonzales sure looked uncomfortable giving his statement.

One possibility is the launching of an attack on Iran.

Another is a huge financial market downturn.

A third would be a terrorist attack on the homeland.

Any of which would have the capacity to draw all the attention away from Gonzales remaining in office. But really bad for the country.

Gonzales Staffer Was "Ready Replacement" for Rove
By Paul Kiel - March 13, 2007, 2:52 PM

Some background on Kyle Sampson, the now former chief of staff to Alberto Gonzales whom you'd never heard of before today.

From Al Kamen's "In The Loop" column on October 31, 2005, when the Valerie Plame scandal was raging:

Waiting in the Wings

Speaking of Karl Rove , there had been much concern last week that he also might have to resign as a result of Fitzgerald's probe. The loss of Karl's familiar presence -- he's the last of the original "Iron Triangle" of Bush's Texas advisers still in the White House -- would have unsettled many younger aides.

Fortunately, there's a ready replacement: D. Kyle Sampson , chief of staff to Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales and formerly in the White House counsel's office. Maybe not exactly the same as Karl but . . .

11. E-mail fro Griffin to Sampson

I am only in favor of executing on a plan to push some USAs out if we really are ready and willing to put in the time necessary to select candidates and get them appointed -- It will be counterproductive to DOJ operations if we push USAs out and then don't have replacements ready to roll immediately. In addition, I strongly recommend that as a matter of administration, we utilize the new statutory provisions that authorize the AG to make USA appointments.... we can give far less deference to home state senators and thereby get 1.) our preferred person appointed and 2.) do it far faster and more efficiently at less political costs to the White House.

14. Hahaha!
Sorry. It was just an automatic response. I can't help myself from laughing. I guess it's the irony that we knew all along. But now it's all in the wide open air. Hahaha!

I love the smell of burning fascists in the morning.
