Naomi Klein: Financial crisis part of Bush 'shock doctrine'

The bailout of Wall Street’s largest players by the federal government is another example of the Bush administration pursuing a corporate agenda at the expense of average Americans, a prominent author argued on Friday.

In a Friday night interview on HBO's Real Time with Bill Maher, Naomi Klein said President Bush’s $700 billion proposal to rescue the financial sector stems from a profiteering streak that has dominated the last eight years.

"The disaster is far from over," Klein said. "The disaster was on Wall Street and they have moved the disaster to Main Street."

This is exactly what they wanted and now we have Andrew Sullivan's giving these same greedy bastards a pass by blaiming the victims. Hey asshole! Those same people you are blaming, by claiming WE ARE ALL TO BLAME, ARE THE ONES PAYING FOR IT, not the upper crust that you seem closest to.

If you believe in "self-governing", help educate the common people, but you don't even want to fund public education.... not too many can AFFORD YOUR EDUCATION or have the time to learn what you know.... asshole!

3. No healthcare, no food stamps, no housing assistance, no social security, etc...
If the republicans continue to control our government. Along with public assets auctioned off to the private sector.

But they will never fail to find money for prisons and weaponry.

Don't worry, just work harder.

5. That could have been a really good Bill Maher program ...
... if Sullivan hadn't blathered his way through most of it, consuming about 70% of the airtime.

7. Yeah, well you know we had to be told again how pious Sullivan is.
Maher can't stay to the point and last night I was most interested in hearing what Naomi had to say. When they got to talking religion, Naomi didn't say a word.

8. Yeah, between Maher allowing Sullivan to run rampant over the other guests ...
... and Maher's own ideological rant against religion, what could have been a very good show was wasted.

12. I wasn't aware of that.

Though I doubt it's the cause. He's just reverting to the same conservative ideological fundamentalism that resulted in his being an advocate for the Iraq invasion.

10. Depends on the solution.
Dictatorial control without oversight should be rejected. Also, any ideas or directives from the world bank. However, remember China is calling in its chips, so doing nothing isn't a good idea either. Its just those that have brought us to this point can't provide the remedy.
