US Plans to Oust Musharraf |

US Plans To Oust Musharraf By: Nicole Belle @ 3:15 PM - PDT Submit or Digg this Post
Of course, nowhere in the US mainstream media will you find this story. And given their incredible track record thus far, who here thinks that this move is a good one? This PNAC-driven foreign policy has the anti-Midas touch of absolutely screwing up everything within reach.
The Age (Australia): (h/t Gregory)
The US has indicated for the first time that it might be willing to back plans by elite echelons of the military in Islamabad to oust Pervez Musharraf from power, as the Pakistani President was beset by major new difficulties over his attempts to sack the country's chief justice.<..>
US officials told The New York Times the plan would see the Vice-Chief of the Army, Ahsan Saleem Hyat, take over from General Musharraf as head of the military and former banker Mohammedmian Soomro installed as president, with General Hyat wielding most of the power.<..>
The US report suggests a growing disenchantment towards General Musharraf in Washington and indicates that the longstanding view that the alternative to his regime would be chaos and a takeover by extremist Islamic mullahs is no longer ascendant.
The US officials say hardline Islamists have usually not done well in elections in Pakistan and that if General Musharraf were removed, a doomsday scenario would not necessarily follow.
Yeah, and these "US officials" have been so bang on correct in their assessment of international reactions in the past, haven't they?

A nation with a large radical islamic population AND A NUCLEAR BOMB.
We definitely need to take a chance here to see if the radical islamic factions will take over if we oust Musharraf.
So what if we are wrong.... Sheesh. What idiots.

The idea that the US promotes democracy anywhere is a joke.
I think they better be careful in Pakistan. These guys have nukes.

3. Why don't we just install a puppet government, and be done with it? |
|
Maybe we should just go back to the days of the Cold War, where we would install "puppet" governments around the world to do our bidding. I almost would rather have that than all this bullshit we're going through now.

4. I suggested in a post re the Cricket World Cup |
|
on Sunday that while the cricket world is distracted don't rule out a coup in Pakistan. Of course our home team West Indies whipped Pakistan today in the opening match so keep your eyes on Pakistan for the next few weeks. If they're going to overthrow Mushie it will be between now and April 28th.
Notice Zimbabwe is back in the enws big time. It never fails during the Cricket World Cup.
