What are the obstructionist Republicans trying to achieve with blocking the bailout? |
|
Edited on Fri Sep-26-08 11:58 AM by AllieB
What are the terms that they're asking for? I have been trying to get my arms around this, and it seems that the Republicans who are blocking this are doing so to prop up corporate interests, but are on the corporate media spinning this as helping Main Street. Can someone help me understand this?
Thanks! :-)

2. They are trying to pin the bailout on the Democrats and Bush. They |

oppose it with the majority of the people. They want to become the "conservative populist party."

7. But are they helping the taxpayer? |
|
I have a feeling they'll eventually be called out by the corporate media once the terms of helping the big business interewsts are revealed.

They know they created this mess. They desperately want to be seen as the ones who fixed it so that dumb people will forget who caused it.

9. No new regulations. No help for ordinary Americans. |
|
Edited on Fri Sep-26-08 12:08 PM by fed_up_mother
Basically, they want to hold their noses and vote on this bill (they don't want to spend this money any more than we do), and prop up the status quo. Life as usual. Screw the ordinary American.

10. like it or not - there will be some sort of bailout or propping up |
|
the repubs want to place the blame on the dems. they want to blame the dems for the mess and the cleanup
this has nothing to do with concern for "main street", it's all political posturing.

17. Chaos. Misery and the consequent free floating rage these engender |
|
Edited on Fri Sep-26-08 01:24 PM by kenny blankenship
Most latter day Republicans are in fact Nihilists. They believe only in the accumulation of power for its own sake. Look at what they do when they get it. No one is easier to lead around by the nose than a man so distressed that he has gone blind from anger and can't process reasonable information and debate. The Republicans sense an opportunity to create gigantic convulsions of rage in the public and they know they can profit from it. They're down big and since the only thing they care about is power, they figure they've got nothing to lose. They don't know exactly how it will play out or what they're exact angles will be but they are instinctually drawn to any plan to maximize chaos and anger in the electorate and then yell "THE DEMOCRATS WERE IN CHARGE THE DEMOCRATS CAUSED THIS" over and over until people who've lost everything including their wits believe them.

They seem to think if the govt gets out of the way completely, companies will generate capital on their own and there won't need to be a bailout.

but I haven't heard any specifics as to how they're doing that. It's all demagoguery and a pathetic attempt to prop McBush up. They're trying to make it seem like the Democrats are on Bush's side and McBush is standing up to them....:eyes:

They want to make it, "Democrats took your tax money for their rich friends." I think it could work, if Dems pass something without them.
ALL of Congress wants to prop up corporate interests, but Dems are also interested in trying to do a little for taxpayers, too.

21. The Democrats NEED to change the framing TODAY! |
|
The Democrats are NOT offering a Bailout Plan.
The Democrats are proposing a Buy In plan that will offer equity, transparency, oversight, and the potential for PROFIT for the taxpayers. As long as Democrats refer to this as a bailout, they will lose in the publics eye.
Paulson & Bush demanded a "Bailout".
The Democrats said NO!!!,
but have proposed an incremental "Buy In" Plan.

24. Capital gains tax cut and a major corporate tax cut.. One puke was mentioning 5% on PBS News-hour. |
|
Edited on Fri Sep-26-08 06:32 PM by FreeStateDemocrat
The puke only admitted to it after Barney Franks bludgeoned him with it repeatedly. Barney Franks makes a real and effective effort to maintain BS free spin zone when he's around. I was very impressed by his tenacity in exposing the puke's lies and deceptions.
