What is this CNN BS re: Clinton and Fannie Mae, etc? |
|
Using a NY Times story from 1999 to say the mortgage mess is the Clinton's fault because they pushed for lending to less-worthy buyers? That's a Rep talking point, and is bullshit. Using one NY Times story to describe the whole issue?

for banks and thrifts..... But there's another analysis floating around that shows that most of the damage was created by financial organizations which didn't have CRA duties or obligations. Don't believe it. http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x4097381

2. Rick Sanchez did NOT say "the mortgage mess is Clinton's |
|
fault." He read, verbatim, the NYT article, that's all. If that's accurate, then we'll just have to deal with it.
You're overreacting. He's not using it to 'describe the whole issue.' Calm down - we'll be fine.

5. Yes, you are right and Clinton explained all of that which makes sense, I won't |

go into it here but like he said that was then and now is now. There was a huge budget surplus back during his administration that freed up more money. The problem and most economists still agree was the Gramm/McCain deregulation of our financial industries and the regulators did not do their job. They all looked away as these guys went wild.
Wasn't Clinton, I know they would love to blame him for this too, but they can't because they couldn't get to him from having to wade through their own muck.

7. He is. He's referred to it several times. McCain's campaign chief (I think) lobbied for the same |
|
thing, on behalf of Fannie and Freddie. I'm just shocked that he's referring to that one article and keeps saying "article that we found" as though they had unearthed the smoking gun.

8. A Repug Friend E-Mailed Me This Article Yesterday...... |
|
it's going around Repug circles. I'm thinking the McCain campaign is floating it and are going to use it tonight on Obama. I hope he has a good response. They are trying to land the blame on this crisis at the feet of Clinton and the Dems.
Looks like the Repugs got an alternative proposal that they will credit McCain on as well. McCain will have his talking points tonight.
