but I use my hubby as a barometer. He is pretty much apolitical though he did flip McCain a bird yesterday when he was on tv acting like he saved the day. He was bored stiff during the debate. He thought McCain was snide and condescending. He had no idea McCain was lying. He cares next to nothing about foreign policy so the topic was a snoozefest for him. I'd say, McCain came of as grumpy and condescending, Obama held his own for those who don't follow politics. Draw.

McCain is a liar. All you have to do is look at his record. Unfortunately, most Americans buy bullshit.

5. McCain was a complete and total idiot! |
|
It was sad to watch McCain. When I used to live in Phoenix, even as a Democrat like now, I actually used to look up to McCain. Tonight was just the icing on the cake showing a man that just needs to retire. He wants to be Teddy for the Republicans. However, when even your own party is scared of you, I think that speaks volumes. Our own polls aside, the fact that the global polls would prefer Obama, also speaks volumes to how the world wants to move on, and put this horrible presidency to rest, and not just continue it for another 4 years, or less given how he is looking. Am I imagining it, or did McCain get a couple of lbs of botox?

6. McAnus. Three of us rabid Obama supporters were absolutely speechless after the debate. |
|
I think we were all shocked that McAnus could tell all those lies with a straight face, call Obama naive and tell him he just doesn't understand, and basically be the attacker ALL DEBATE LONG.
Our man needs to toughen up.

Those of us in the room were positively screaming in anger, when Obama kept saying he agreed with McCain.
It doesn't matter what he meant...it's how it sounded. And it sounded repetitive and imbecilic. You don't win votes by telling voters that your opponent is "absolutely right" so many times that it becomes a mantra.

13. I didn't interpret it like that |
|
Since his follow through made a counter argument (at least in my mind). I agree though that he should come out punching on some of these issues. But, he walks the line because of his color. Whether we like it or not, the perception of "uppity" is ready to fling out, just like "she looks angry" did with Michelle Obama.
I was disappointed the most because they both avoided the dialog about the financial meltdown in detail.

14. We've had a "tough guy" president for 8 years. |
|
The problem with "tough guys" is that they they usually end up getting their ass kicked somewhere along the line. The intelligent guys usually end up running shit. Think George Bush = Tough Guy / Clinton = Intelligent Guy. Who do you think will have a better historical record?
Obama did not decimate McCain but by no stretch of the imagination did McCain win.

23. I think you're confusing being a "tough guy" with having backbone. There are times when smiling and |
|
being nice are totally inappropriate--like when someone is telling bald-faced lies about you to your face.
I am not suggesting by any stretch of the imagination that Obama should start pounding the lectern and screaming at McAnus. Or grinding his teeth with his eyes bugged out like Mcanus. I'm saying that it's a GOOD THING to show that you are pissed WITHOUT LOSING YOUR TEMPER. Most times that simple act will get the conversation back on an even keel.
This morning I went to the local Farmers' Market to pick up some things. There is a woman there who is a farmer who is in her 70's. She and her husband are there every week. He's a Korean War vet and he and I have chatted a couple of times because he sometimes wears his veteran baseball cap (I'm a vet too). Unfortunately the gentleman is becoming senile and can't carry on much of a conversation, but this morning she was very chatty. We have never discussed anything other than flowers and the healing powers of veggies before, but this morning she said to me "I'm about exhausted. I watched the debate last night, then got up at 4am to come to the market."
So I asked her what she thought of the debate. She said that she thought Obama did pretty good. I responded that I thought he did well too, but I thought that McCain was hanging in there with Obama. She stopped wrapping the flowers and turned to me and said, "Obama's really got to learn to HIT BACK HARD. I hope they use this as a lesson for the next debate." Of course, I agreed with her.
So, NO TOUGH GUY ROUTINE, just a no-nonsense, eyeball to eyeball, LET ME GET SET YOU STRAIGHT ON THIS approach would do it for me. And I think it would help to convert a lot of fencesitters.
