Congressman Shays (Rep) is making a good argument for this bill. He's |
|
making sense to me.
I find that I'm leaning toward the passage of this, so am generally in agreement with what the Dems are saying, but to hear a reasoned statement in support of it from a Republican is nice.

Especially in a hearing, he rambles and rambles.
Glad to hear he is coherent today.

3. When I heard Shays speak... all I could think of is the Iraq War Vote... |

... why are we rushing into this without due care? This is the "Giant Mushroom Cloud" over Baghdad that stampeded us into the most costly war in history. Bush had this Bill on his desk for over a year.. I can't see how this is not making people's alarm bells go off. You mean Bush KNEW about this disaster for over a year and he did nothing? Sounds familiar, huh?

6. See? Good point. I find compelling arguments on both sides -- I'm flip flopping big time. |
|
But bottom line is, as somebody posted, historically the Dems are better for the middle class, the Reps aren't.
Either way, we need to come to a decision soon -- it's like we're in suspended animation. Vote, then let us regroup and deal with whatever happens next. We'll survive, we just need to get on with it.

"Here, eat this shit sandwich? No it's not ideal, but it has fiber ... really it's editable. Go ahead, EAT IT!" :puke:

5. He's the last remaining Republican congressman in New England. |
|
His constituency includes a lot of Wall Street folks in southern CT, so of course he's for it.
I actually agree with the bailout in a limited fashion. I was watching Rep. Dingell make a plea because of the impact on the auto industry.
I'm hoping that an Obama administration will bring about more regulation than is included in the bill.

9. Earlier Barney Frank said that next year they would introduce more |

regulation, safeguards, oversight, so that this doesn't happen again, and like you, I have hope the Obama administration will see to it.
I'm not familiar with the Senator from CT, so I was able to listen to his points objectively -- without knowledge of his background filtering my reaction. So, just what he said made sense to me.

10. You're absolutely right, and he's in a real |
|
dogfight for his seat. Last local poll I saw against Jim Himes (D) was a dead heat - 45-45. He barely beat Diane Farrell in '06 - and was helped by a Libertarian pulling about 1.5%. I'm hoping we can bounce the last Repug from our CT delegation!

12. Thank you! We need all the help we can get with that race. |

Chris Murphy is my rep - ousted Nancy Johnson in '06. He's getting a pretty solid challenge from Capiello - lots of repug fund raising for him, but Chris looks to be ahead in $ by about 30% and in polls by about 4 - 6%. The rest of the state looks pretty safe Dem.
Your former MA neighbor (Foxboro) now hanging out in Danbury CT! :hi:
