Remembering DUer Oneighty....we lost him two years ago in September.
His DU Journal is still available here at DU. It is truly a treasure to read.

Oneighty's Journal

One of his most moving ones was from May of that year.

Have I grown too old to dream?

I wonder as I rush to my seventy second birthday. Now I see yesterday as being more interesting than tomorrow.

It is like once when the motor on my crab boat quit and I waited patient for (perhaps) rescue. While I sat alone on my boat anchored up in the brown water salt creek surrounded by salt marsh grass I had no fears of yesterday or tomorrow.

In the distance I could see the Cape Romain light house and the adjacent tower and I knew I was not alone.

But now I am not so sure.

I transcribed a tribute to him from his book I have called The Voyages of the Vicky Mary.

It was September 26, 2006.

Gonna hop into that car of mine and drive around the world.

My last new car was in 1968, a Karman Ghia. I am a sixty eight year old, old fool now, with a real sporty silver colored little car, which I bought this morning.

I stopped to show my daughter the car a bit ago. She was not home. So instead I got to show my thirteen going on eighteen-year-old granddaughter the sporty toy. She liked it a lot.

I said "I ought to be able to pick up some cool chicks with this car. What do you think?"

"Sure, Grandpa" she says.

I believe that granddaughter posted here during that time.

We have lost too many DUers.

"that grand daughter
is now a beautiful young woman (now 18) , and the daughter is driving the silver car.

The daughter is the one who told me of his passing .He asked specifically that his DU friends be told of his passing"

14. Looking at his journal, it's like he just stopped writing one day

Everything seems 'frozen'. His profile says "I am..." and it makes me defiant. Damn right, it will always be "I am" not "I was". Small, small victory.

:(

15. Thank you for posting this madfloridian
Oneighty was a very very special person - and we're all the poorer since his passing.

However, it's also a reminder that EACH & EVERY one of us ~ US ~ yes, *you* and *me* have that same power, that same beauty within us as Oneighty did! He would like us to carry on in his stead, I am quite sure.

24. Thanks, he was a special guy. I need to scan a cover pic from the book.
I thought I had, but can't find it. I am on a different computer now.

He was able to put his thoughts down like a stream, not too worried if they led to a conclusion or did not. They were his feelings at that point in time.

That made me cry. I feel that way at 44. I remember seeing oneighty's name around the board, but now I really wish I had known him better. Thank you for the tribute.

25. I think a lot of people of all ages feel that way right now....
We are seeing the destruction of our once great country right before our eyes, and it is very sad.

19. 180 was a great guy.
He wanted to buy me a star. I didn't even know what a star was.
He said "Don't worry--it's cheap!"
