"We need to do something," Woolsey, D-Petaluma, said after Monday's vote. "But we didn't need to do $700 billion for Wall Street and nothing for 95 percent of the American people - who need unemployment insurance, who need an infrastructure program for jobs, who need the assurance that Wall Street will pay for some of this mess."

"President Bush and Secretary Paulson have been wrong from the start on just about everything," Woolsey said. "If you think they will be responsible with this money, think again." She said a provision in the current plan relating to this is too weak.

Woolsey also wanted $60 billion in programs designed to help those most at risk. This would include extending unemployment insurance, helping seniors and low-income families with low-cost home heating oil, and investing in projects she said would create millions of good-paying jobs.
