Palin Claimed Dinosaurs and People Coexisted

Posted by Rachel Weiner, Huffington Post at 3:00 AM on September 30, 2008.

"I need to know if she really thinks that dinosaurs were here 4000 years ago ... because she's gonna have the nuclear codes."

The LA Times reports:

Soon after Sarah Palin was elected mayor of the foothill town of Wasilla, Alaska, she startled a local music teacher by insisting in casual conversation that men and dinosaurs coexisted on an Earth created 6,000 years ago -- about 65 million years after scientists say most dinosaurs became extinct -- the teacher said.

After conducting a college band and watching Palin deliver a commencement address to a small group of home-schooled students in June 1997, Wasilla resident Philip Munger said, he asked the young mayor about her religious beliefs.

Palin told him that "dinosaurs and humans walked the Earth at the same time," Munger said. When he asked her about prehistoric fossils and tracks dating back millions of years, Palin said "she had seen pictures of human footprints inside the tracks," recalled Munger, who teaches music at the University of Alaska in Anchorage and has regularly criticized Palin in recent years on his liberal political blog, called Progressive Alaska.

The idea of a "young Earth" -- that God created the Earth about 6,000 years ago, and dinosaurs and humans coexisted early on -- is a popular strain of creationism.

In a widely-circulated interview, Matt Damon said of Palin, "I need to know if she really think that dinosaurs were here 4000 years ago. I want to know that, I really do. Because she's gonna have the nuclear codes."

8. Cut her a break
She probably got confused because she used to watch "Land of the Lost" on Saturday mornings when she was a kid. This could happen to anybody.... I, myself, thank God every day that the Sleestacks no longer walk the earth.

Seriously (my friends ;) ), not only is she unqualified for the VP or Presidency, her world view is worlds away from mainstream. And the fact that she's unqualified isn't an "experience" issue, it's a brain power issue. I have no doubts that she's a smart person, but her smartness is tempered by her narrow-mindeness and myopic view of the world. She may be smart but she certainly isn't bright.

10. I'd love to hear her explanation of why they went extinct then
Edited on Tue Sep-30-08 08:27 AM by lunatica
Did her ancestors kill them off for food? for cabin wall decoration? For the latest fashion in leather clothes?

Won't someone just follow up on the obvious next questions?

Why did they go extinct?

It's the same with the bible thumping "God created everything" crowd. Ask them where the hell did God get the material to do all this creating and they just get irritated.
