'Confederate Soldier' Shot By 'Yankee' During Civil War Reenactment Prompts Investigation
Victim: 'It Could Have Killed Me'

WINDSOR, Va. -- A sheriff's investigation has been launched after a 73-year-old costumed Union soldier participating in a Civil War reenactment was shot after a pretend victory.

Tom Lord said he had just driven the Confederate army out of a trench at the fairgrounds near Windsor on Route 258 and was celebrating when he was shot by a ground from an 1860 Colt Army revolver.

"I got hit in the shoulder and I thought somebody had hit me with a shovel," Lord told WAVY-TV. "I had just driven the Confederates out of the trench and under direction we raise our hats and say, 'Hoorah, Hoorah, Hoorah.'"

Julian Ison, who was acting as a Confederate soldier, was told to stop after the shooting.

3. For what it's worth there is a great book called "Confederates in the Attic"
about these Civil War re-enactors. Very funny and somewhat disturbing book.

6. Hell, yes. But as the book points out the very best of the lot try to
get as close to the real thing as possible. I guess real ammo was the thing to do. He probably melted down metal and made his own.

9. He was hit by a .44 cal ball from a pistol
This size lead ball is readily available on line and at any well equipped sporting goods stores.

8. Yes they are, but this was not a reenactment
it was a scene for a movie of some sort. A lot of the rules that are enforced at organized reenactment were apparently not followed by the folks casting and shooting the film.
