In 1988 had the dem ticket been Bentsen/Dukakis would the Dem have won? |
|
considering that the Dukakis/Bentsen ticket was 17-points ahead after the Dem convention, I was wondering if the Dem ticket had been reversed if Bentsen could have beaten Poppy Bush?

1. This will be controversial here, I know... |
|
but I didn't like Bentsen, and don't think he'd have been a good president even if he'd won. Yes, better than Poppy or Quayle - any Dem would have been. But quite a right-winger in his own right.

Bentsen was not the "ticket-topper type"..too bland..Dukakis was the "other"..the swarthy guy with the foreign sounding name..
and Bush was perceived as Reagan's 3rd term..and not too threatening...(little did we all know then)

3. If the ticket were reversed, |
|
we'd never have had that brilliant Bentsen line delivered to a trembling Dan Quayle about "You're no Jack Kennedy."
I wonder, though. Bentsen was remarkable, and well-liked. But, Lee Atwater was running Poppy's campaign, so it probably would have been stolen for them, anyway.
