Must See TV: P.O.V. "Critical Condition" |
|
Four heart-breaking stories of uninsured Americans, all of them hardworking, good-hearted, salt-of-the-earth types. They get lost in red tape, fall through the cracks, and eventually, two lose their lives.
"We do ration care in this country based on ability to pay," a doctor who works for a public hospital admits.
I'd like to send a DVD of this to every legislator in the country, although I know that the Republicans would think up reasons why the people portrayed are "whiners" and "don't care of their own health." Actually, they are far more stoic than I would have been.

7. The discussion afterwards was infuriating |
|
Representatives of the Obama and McCain campaigns, a health economist from Princeton University, and a guy from the Heritage Foundation discussed "solutions," but no one even MENTIONED the idea of single payer.
Sssh, we mustn't use naughty words like that.
