Bloomberg: well He's a Dictator, right?
I am flabbergasted at the failure of the usual suspects here to denounce the stalinist dictator of New York City, Michael Bloomberg, for his recent efforts at a bloodless coup d'etat by abolishing the term limits that prevent him from becoming Mayor for Life of New York City.

Where are the Stalwart Defenders of Democracy? Why the stunning silence?

1. I am against people trying to change the rules so that they can stay in office.
I disagreed with Rudy trying to do it after 9-11 and I disagree with Bloomberg doing it now.

2. Did he fail to renew the licence of any TV stations in New York?
Nah, I guess not, because if he had, I'm sure we'd have heard about it :sarcasm:

3. He denies permits to organizations that wish to demonstrate....

... for issues ( i.e. peace) to which he is opposed.

If he had the power to renew broadcast licenses do you seriously believe he would do so without regard to politics?

You do not know our mayor.

6. I guess you missed the sarcasm tag
I was just playing along with the OP's implicit Bloomberg/Chavez comparison.

5. Your comparison to Stalin is offensive.
Stalin wasn't *both* the chief exec AND the wealthiest citizen of Moscow.

Apologize now.

9. What concerns me is the fact they even thought of breaking the term liimit rule.
The idea is out there,
Politicians, who are usually sensitive to not pissing off too many folks, are floating the idea.
The Repubs over the years have perfected King Baby behavior: outrageously loud and sudden acts and proposals that take everyone by stunned surprise.
And they have been getting away with it!
They act like street thugs, even in Congress, rude, shouting, making preposterous lies, stealing broad daylight, buying off the cops, so to speak.
How is that any different than the Mafia?
Dead bodies and all.

14. Do hormigas crawl on arbustos?
The Bushes' inadequate espanol is the origin of one of Dim Son's nicknames: he and Poppy named one of their companies "Arbusto", thinking that meant "Bush" when in fact it means "Shrub". Molly Ivins picked up on it, and the rest is history.

13. This is just crap.
If I was living in NY right now I'd be so pissed. There is nothing worse in politics than someone trying to do this.
