Visited the Death Star today...my visceral impressions of my trip to get a passport... |
|
I went downtown Miami today to get my passport for an upcoming business trip and I just cringed when I went into the Pepper Federal building. The security was naturally uber tight and the building was classic gov't bureaucracy boring but what really made my skin crawl was seeing George Bush's and Dick Cheney's portraits hanging prominently in the entrance way with creepy smiles (especially Dick Cheney's) on their faces. (They were obviously put up in 2001 based on how each man looked.)
It was easy enough to get my passport but I still keep seeing those faces on those portraits....the horror...the horror...(cue Apocalypse Now music)...
I'm gonna have to go back down there and visit it once Obama's and Biden's portraits go up just so I can get over it...

2. I think they've done it for the last 60 years or so... |

but having Cheney give you the evil eye when you walk in is just creepy....it reminded me of the scene when Han Solo and Luke Skywalker take Chewy into the detention area and there was all the security and cameras and cold impersonal facade, etc.
