As far as I know, DeWitt, Logan, McLean, and surrounding counties have been Republican strongholds since the inception of the GOP. Heck, Champaign County went GOP in the election of 1856! So if you're saying there are no McCain signs now......wow.

30. I've seen a few McPalin signs here in Champaign County. |
|
You are dead on when you talk about how strong the GOP has been here traditionally--especially in the rural areas. I've noticed a very real change here, however, in the last few years. It isn't that the Republicans have switched their party affiliation en masse, but more a matter of the GOP stalwarts just kinda sitting out some of these races.
I was talking to one of those "old guard" guys about this the other day, in fact. His comment was that the IL GOP is in disarray and he'll be amazed to see any GOP gains in this next election. He also went on to say that he's worried about how this is all gonna go in the election cycle after this (2010.)
According to him, and this made sense to me once he said it, the fiscally conservator guys are really pissed at McCain, can't STAND him, and they have been pissed a long time because dubya has been such a huge failure (actually used the phrase "spending like a drunk sailor!) He told me he knows a lot of guys across the state that don't have signs, that are not giving any cash to the campaign, and they are not working the ticket.
Those guys will NEVER vote for Obama, but they have most certainly limited McPalin's ability to campaign and fund raise.
YMMV, I am just telling what I was told.

2. Since Obama took a small lead here in NC, I have seen some |
|
mcPOW/Phalin bumper stickers(like 5), and a couple of yard signs.
But, I can literally, walk outside my door, walk for an hour to town, and count more than 30 Obama yard signs. I cannot count all of the bumper stickers.

McMansion/Failin one's up in the ritzy areas and a few in the lower middle class areas of town. Obama signs way outnumber them though, and overall there are less signs than usual. I should know, I make them for a living and keep my eyes open.

6. Saw my first McCain sign this week |
|
in Wheaton (DuPage County, Peter Roskam district).
Haven't seen many Obama signs either. There was on down the street from the McCain one, but I think that is the only two signs I've seen so far, except for Ron Paul.
I think the Obama supporters like me are shy about touting it in such a red area. I have stickers on car, but no yard sign yet. Of course, neither campaign is spending any time pushing for it; nobody asking you to put up a sign. All I get from Obama campaign is "will you travel to Indiana, Wisconsin, Iowa, Michigan, Missouri this weekend?" Those are text messages; they started out like that, now they leave off Iowa, Michigan (yay!)

If they aren't here in quasi-rural Georgia I'm not sure they exist at all.
I do see the occasional Obama sign/sticker, not a great number but they are out here.
We had Bush04 stickers *everywhere* four years ago, I still see them, but no McPalin ones.
After an unfortunate experience with a Darwin Fish emblem on my truck some years back I no longer do bumper stickers, it's just not worth the hassle, aggravation and expense if you have something the local fundagelicals take a dislike to.

I'm in the NW burbs...used to be crimson red out here but us city kids have infiltrated out here and now the area has turned deep blue.
My wife mentioned one house in our area that has a Gramps sign on the lawn, but there are also several Democrats for local races. Go figger.
Driving into Lake County (Kirk vs. Seals), it's interesting that almost every house that has a Seals sign also has an Obama one, yet those who support Kirk only have his plain black & white ones.
Even in Kane and Will County, you're seeing Democrats on the rise. Bill Foster took Gym Teach Denny's old seat and Debbie Halverson is set to grab Senor Weller's one in Will County. Last week I drove into Elgin and didn't see a single Gramps sign...but many for local Democrats.
Not only does it suck to be a repugnican...it double sucks to be an Illinois repugnican.
Cheers...

I've seen many more bumper stickers and lawn signs for McNasty than I have for Obama. Not every home sporting GOP candidate signs includes a McNasty sign, but more are sprouting up every day, and I've actually only seen a handful of Obama lawn signs. (I'm in the NE part of Lake County.)

Not many Obama signs. That doesn't mean there aren't any Obama supporters, certainly; there are many. It means that the Chickens for Colonel Sanders Repukes will just steal the signs (as they did with Kerry in '04), like good brownshirts who want liberals executed for treason.
I laugh at these suckers. 8 years of Bewsh fuck-ups, nine straight months of job losses and a funeral of a local boy killed in the WarOnTerr means shit to these people, I guess.

On my street we're still probably only 50% Dem - which is a huge improvement (doncha know, said with a Sarah Palin twang) since this is Denny Hastert's strongest precinct but there are a distressing number of McCain-Palin bumper stickers and yard signs as I drive around here. And in Dupage - wow! They are everywhere, alas.

I live in Orlando and have been working in Fort Lauderdale lately which means a hell of a lot of north south driving up and down the state on I95 and I've seen very little McPalin stuff up and down the road or in either city.
I've seen quite a lot of Obama stuff though and Obama has pulled 5 points ahead here in Florida last I checked.
If Obama wins here by 5 points, he will more or less sweep nationwide. I'm predicting 350 electoral votes myself.

McCain is making a push here, no doubt. While Obama bumper stickers and signs still outnumber McCain's, I'm seeing new McCain signs popping up. Today, at our local farmers' market, for the first time ever, McCain had a table (volunteers for Obama have had a table at the market for weeks).
In fact, its gotten to the point where I was inspired to go down to the local Obama office to see if I could get a few yard signs to offer to distribute to my neighbors. They didn't have any, so I trekked over to the local Democratic Committee offices where I was able to pick up a few. I expect them to be distributed to people later this afternoon.
This fight has 30 days left and we can rest when its over, but not before.
