Friday Vice President Dick Cheney spoke at the White House Conference on North American Wildlife Policy in Reno and told attendees that the Bush Administration has been great for conservation. The man Jon Stewart once described as “the Environmental President for monumentally insane,” is now being touted for his work with conservation groups.
With the line of countries growing ever longer, begging the Commander Guy to do for them what he’s done for Iraq, how Bush has found the time to do for the environment what he’s done for the banking industry is anyone’s guess. To say the least, his dance card has been very full for the last eight years.
With the American workers thanking him for the unemployment levels and the homeowners thanking him for the new ownership society, his work on the environment has been overlooked as of late. At least in the press. But the environment has been a passion of the president from day one. And everyone in the White House has been loath to admit, it hurt to have his work in this area overlooked.
So, please don’t pay attention to people like Sierra Club Executive Director Carl Pope, who said that the Bush administration is “recklessly destroying a century of environmental progress.” Or to the fact that the League of Conservation Voters gave the Bush Administration an “F” for his environmental record. Because, if you can’t trust the word of a man who is willing to “work the dark side,” to tell the truth, who the hell can you trust?
