Resentful of paying taxes |
|
The other day my husband & I were talking about how successful the repubs have been in brainwashing Americans to feel resentful of paying taxes. Which made me wonder why these people aren't more resentful & angry about wages not keeping up with inflation, much less CEO pay. In his book "Take This Job & Ship It," Senator Byron Dorgan states that if minimum wage had kept up with CEO pay since the early 90s it would be $23.08. The amount I pay in taxes is a small pittance compared to the amount of potential wages I've lost due to outsourcing & the loss of buying power due to inflation.
A $500 tax break, which is really only $500 off my taxable income, not a $500 rebate, is hardly anything compared to a $1 an hour wage increase, which, annually, is $2080. Why don't people get this?

3. That has bugged me for decades! Aaarrrgh... |

And now the Republicans have looted our Treasury of those resented taxes, but hey - support our troops and all. Man, what fools. They're still fixated on marginal tax rates.

4. "Average" Americans are idiots that are incapable of conceptualizing things outside of... |
|
their little corner of reality. They don't seem to be able to connect the taxes they pay and the government services they get.

6. I agree that I don't want my taxes to support this war, |

or excessive & obscene pentagon spending. I think that's why people don't like paying taxes - they disagree with what the money is spent on. Taxes should be used to support our Commons. The problem lies in the fact that over half the eligible voters don't vote! They whine about government & how their taxes are spent, but they don't take the time to educate themselves about what candidates stand for or what various legislation means. How many people take time to write to their elected officials to voice their opinion? How many know what a tariff is & how the lack of tariffs effects job opportunity in this country. Hell, how many even know what the Commons are?
I'm just ranting at people's ignorance & complacency. Their very lives depend on knowledge & participation in politics & yet they can't make the time to engage themselves in the process. Everyone wants the world to be a better place, but they can't be bothered to help make it so.
We're fucked.
Ok, I'm off to the liquor store to get a beer. ;)

When the Dems are in charge, I don't mind paying taxes so much, but boy, if the Retards are in charge, I resent sending them my money.
Republicans have always looked at taxes as being a burden, something to be rescued from. Democrats have looked at taxes as contributing to the common good.
