I knew a "Sarah PALIN" once. I hired her. She fucked up, then became the Boss.

I was a 45 yr old supervisor who had taken extra long to work my way up. I was an innovator. I also grew up in a family where women were respected and dominant. I voted for women governors when there weren't any. So when I was in a position of power I hired women where no women had been before.

I never would have THOUGHT of participating in what my male peers did, sexual harassment and such.

Then I hired this Sarah PALIN *type*. She was 24. I was 45 and at the top of my career. She was not like the women in my family or the ones I had voted for. She was a "high maintenance girl."

She was a real go-getter. Well, except the mornings-after the Happy Hours the nights before.

Anyway, to cut to the chase. We were required to have monthly conferences, one on one, supervisor-employee, monthly. She would move her chair next to mine ("May I call you 'Joe'?")

So, she was a star at our Regional and Statewide conferences, partying the Happy Hours away.

AND she met the bigger bosses. AND she '80s networked. Soon she knew I was a stick-in-the-mud.

This was before the Monica years. When *I* moved my chair away from hers during monthly conferences, I later wondered why CLINTON ------------- DIDN'T.

Oh, here's the main point: Before her, in the workplace, we didn't call each other "sir" or "ma'am," but we certainly didn't use colloquial and cuss words.

Soon after I hired her, she called me "DUDE." After that it was using "piss" and "shit" during the Happy Hours and then during working hours.

One time, when she wasn't present, somebody said "piss" and all of us said, "You know, we never used to use those words at work." And somebody said, "It's because of (Sarah PALIN)."

I guess it's a passing-the-torch to the next generation. It ain't that good.

Oh, did I forget to mention that she networked the hell, despite pisspoor performance, and connected with the top woman boss who wanted a daughter/follower and in LIGHT-YEARS speed tumbled all of us OLD supervisors and became our boss?!1

*She's* not a feminist. *I* am.

1. We've all run into at least one of them by the time we're 40
and usually by the time we're out of high school. You're right about the high maintenance part. They're also the ones in the ruling class who made our lives miserable. They generally peak in high school or just after, snagging some poor guy with more money than brains, and proceed to the women's clubs or politics, expecting everybody else to do their work all the way through.

They're always bright, perky, bouncy, incompetent and vindictive.

Women are seeing through this one a lot quicker than men are because we're the ones who have been stuck doing her grunt work while she swans around taking all the glory.

I can certainly guess the end to your story. Most women can.

4. I worked for Sarah Palin...
I worked in County Government at one time. I would stay until 7 pm each night (without overtime) and do reports and finish the paperwork that needed to be done for the next day. (Sarah would always leave early because she and hubby had matching Harley-Davidsons and they had to go riding). She also had 7 Rottweilers that she kept in her kitchen and she always had to go home to meet the vet or feed the dogs. After 1 year, there was a death in the department and a Supervisors job became open. Sarah (with the help of her friend ,the receptionist) took a very important report from my mailbox on Friday afternoon and hid it. Monday morning, Sarah promptly pointed out to the County Manager (my boss) that I had failed to turn in the report by Friday as required by law. After a week of "investigation", the report mysteriously turned up. I also found out she had been reading my e-mail and screening my calls. They called a Department meeting with court reporter and all hands present. They announced (in front of everyone) that I was fired and that Sarah would be the new Department Manager. I stood there with my mouth open.. defenseless. They made me clear my desk out that day and Sarah smiled a sly little smile as I walked out the door. Welcome to the Sarah Palin school of County Administration.

10. well, I couldn't prove she was the one who hid the report..
that's why I had no defense. But she was the only one who had to gain. Another person in the office told me aobut the emails and I would get calls from people who said they had left messages I never received. As you said.. I learned too late.

6. Happens on the male end all the time.
An old motto is new again: "Know what to kiss and when."

Well, I always believe in doing the best I can. I don't work anymore (disabled with MS) so I can honestly say: "Homey don't play that game no more."

11. I gonna recommend this post in honor of the Sarah I now have the honor of working with
Good looking, ambitious type. She's a work-out instructor in her off hours. Kisses up to the bosses all the time. She's applied for higher up positions, but so far no luck.

Doesn't do the grunt work the rest of us peons do.
