1. Whoa, whoa, whoa! What do you mean, "you people"? |
|
:P
Seriously, though, people in general, but political candidates in particular, are seemingly scared to death of the mythical "average American" whose prejudices need to be flattered at all times lest they decide that "Them Democrats is too damn librul," and go for the other guy. What OUR guys need to realize is that going for the lowest common denominator just won't work, because the only people it might sway are going to vote Republican regardless.

I am perfectly happy to have Obama do a Sister Soulja on the FFR guys. Depending, of course, on the particulars of the lawsuit.

Most important is to win the election, then our winning team can do whatever they want.
If we lose for taking "brave" positions before the election, then what's the point?
Republicans learned long ago - say anything to get elected, then do whatever you want once you get elected.
That's strategy, not being a wimp.

You can't govern without public support, without operating dictatorially as the Bush administration has done.
Anything the public would reject in an election, they will oppose after an election.
Besides, the notion of saying one thing and then doing another - and praising that - is morally bankrupt and can only hurt the party.
The public is aware of the sentiment you expressed here. That is more damaging to the party than taking any position could ever be.
Besides, 70% of the public supports positions far to the Left of the party politicians. Taking stronger positions would help, not hurt, electoral possibilities.
