Lieberman is considering switching parties and join Senate Republicans

http://www.newsmax.com/headlines/lieberman_obama_naive/2008/10/07/138212.html

<snip>
Asked if he may leave his party and join with Senate Republicans, Lieberman said he had no immediate plans to make that move, but said he would consider it at a later date.

“The Democratic Party of today is not the Democratic Party that I joined in the '60s under my hero President Kennedy, and it’s not the Democratic Party of my dear friend Bill Clinton,” Lieberman said.

You've proven yourself to be a grandstanding egotistical prick who would turn on your own party to satisfy your own ambitions.

The GOP already has enough people like that, they wont want you either.

20. Gee, Joe can become the Benedict Arnold of the 21st century.....
without Arnold's natural talents.

After becoming one of the King's Men, Arnold was reviled in England--never trusted by his fellow officers, I understand, because he WAS a turncoat.

I wonder if the rePublicans would pay Lieberman as well as King George III paid his lapdog: "Arnold received a commission as a Brigadier General in the British Army, a good annual pension of £360, and a lump sum of about 17 times that amount", per Wiki.

7. It takes a special kind of asshat to switch your affilliation to a party that
diasagrees with just about every position you have ever taken your whole life other than one misbegotten war.

And to do it just as they are about to be handed a first class whupping in November and be swept into relative irrelevance.

Good job Joe.

Because he would lose many of his perks. And in a Congress poised to turn even bluer, his vote would no longer be pivotal, so Republicans would tell him "hi, how ya doing, take a number and get in line."

54. It really is not in his interest to become an R.
The Junior senator would find himself out of a job if he did that - he is after all in a quite a blue state, and the main reason why he won last time IIRC is because the Republican party at the federal level campaigned to support his re-election, leaving the official Republican nominee in CT out in the cold. The 'Official R' got 9.6% of the vote in 2006, compared to 34% in 2000. It was a clever tactic to his re-election: split the D vote and get most of the R votes. In 2012 he'd be reliant on splitting the D votes and getting the R votes again if he stayed I. If he went R that'd unify the D vote. If he groveled and went back as a compliant D then he'd keep his seat.

However come 2008 elections, if we do very very well indeed, Lieberman may become totally irrelevant.

Mark.

Please. Who cares? We don't need his nonsense... and it won't matter. This will be his last term in the Senate.

Hey Joe! I want to tell you a little secret you don't seem to know yet. Come here! I gotta tell you something. How do I say this... Hate to deflate your ego and all, since you seem to think you're some cort of badass or something... ... but your Senate career and standing? Well, my friend (to quote your new BFF,) that seems to be a thing of the past. Basically, here is your political career ---> You have officially drank the RW kool-aide But don't worry, the Democrats won't forget you. They'll be on their side of the aisle, and will acknowledge you like this:

But, I suppose he is wanting some attention. OK. I'll oblige. "Say it ain't so, Joe." Here, let us seduce you back. Is that enough, Joe? Ok, you can take your ball and go home now.

For crying out loud. :eyes: Go, already. Please. Go. This idiot makes me want to scream. Does anyone listen to him blabber anymore? Are you gone yet? Doing my happy dance! Let's all do a happy dance!

36. Yeah, but can he get elected as a Republican in CT?
I'm betting not.
He won based on a three way split election.
Going back to two way, the odds of his winning go down I'd imagine, and I bet he thinks so too.

He'll stay independent for now and utilize the vote splitting to his advantage.

43. Lieberman PROMISED that he would vote with the Democrats
In a November 15, 2006, article, Leibovich reported: "During the campaign, Mr. Lieberman said repeatedly that he would continue to vote with the Democratic caucus." Indeed, in October 2006, after Lieberman lost the Connecticut Democratic Senate primary to challenger Ned Lamont and decided to run for his seat as an independent, blogger spazeboy posted a video in which Lieberman was asked: "Would you unequivocally ... caucus with the Democrats?" Lieberman responded: "I've said that 1,200 times." When asked to clarify with a "yes or no" answer, Lieberman responded: "Yes. Yes."

Can't be a surprise, but then again, they thought they were signing on for a Democrat all those years ago.

He's such an ass.

I don't know that it much matters what party he picks. We'll have the majority, almost certainly, without him anyway. And it's not like we were really counting on his votes.

Making it all official just seems to get it all out of the way and in the open, doesn't it?
