My husband noticed this about Sarah Palin - requesting DU input!
He has noticed several times that she does not wear a wedding ring. Has anyone noticed this? Is it an issue? He wants to know what DU has to say.

6. We were looking at both hands tonight on KO
We didn't notice one, but of course if it was small (not likely ;) ) then we could have missed it.

2. It's a subliminal thing that strippers do
It makes the guys thing she's available. When was the last time you saw the "First Dude"?

40. Not all of us do and that's not really why
All the married dancers I work with don't like to wear their wedding/engagement rings because they get in the way, accidently scratch customers and are too easy to accidently come off and be lost or stolen. Men don't care if you're married or not and most prefer that you are so they don't have to deal with you falling for them and creating havoc in their life. And I don't know any of us that want to be thought of as available since that just invites customers not wanting to spend money on you at work, ask you out or try to convince you to see them elsewhere to get paid.

At least jewellery on the body (rings, earrings, etc.).

5. Do you wear one? As a woman, I find marriage an oppressive institution
I also think that rings for both partners is a little much. Like ownership. Maybe spouses should have diamond-encrusted collars or something. Be more apropos.

10. I do wear one
I guess the controversy might be that as a person of such great character (I almost :puke: typing that) she would wear one.

I know that most of us don't care - but I'm very sure the wingnuts would care!

13. Sometimes a ring is just a ring
I wear mine because it was a gift from my then-fiancee, now wife. She wears hears for the analogous reason.

Ownership doesn't enter into it. If either of us tried to claim ownership of the other, we'd both laugh our asses off.

I'm sure that your diamond-encrusted collar will be most fetching, but not everyone sees a gift and a commitment as voluntary enslavement.

Welcome to DU, by the way!

Now...remember the subject of this discussion. How well does rationality really play in her neck of the woods?

24. Fresh? Is that good? I meant nothing negative in my statement, for those who are married
I just never had the urge. Come from parents who were legally married yet had no respect for one another. So I never had stars in my eyes over doing that particular ritual. I am not much on rituals anyhow. I have been in a relationship with a man since 1982 and it gets better with time.

28. My wife and I have rings, but we never wear them. We know our hearts and
have no need to wear the "brand." They weren't typical rings. I found her ring, put it on her finger and it fit. She bought a nice red turquoise ring for me.

We both worked with our hands, and rings get caught on things, get lost, you know, crap like that. They were just symbols and of no real use to us. 26 years and counting. Loving it, ring or no ring.

No bosses here. Each has their own tasks, but that is not a rule, it is preference for the job. The only oppression is the heat and humidity of Kentucky summers.

aren't able to finish a pregnancy with a wedding ring.

I think it is a little weird.

14. It has to do with her religion -- no jewelry. There have been several discussions about this on DU
over the past several weeks. I never bothered paying much attention, because I, like, totally don't a give a shit. The one thing I remember is that someone -- who knew something about Palin's brand of fundamentalism -- said that it was a religious thing. Works for me.

(I personally don't care whether she wears a wedding ring or not - but I doubt it has anything to do with religion.)

16. Having once been a member of her denomination...
unless her church has totally splintered from the Assembly of God denomination, they most certainly DO allow its members to wear jewelry -- as well as make up. This was a huge difference between them and the "Church of God" (Cleveland Tennessee headquarters). The A/G is considered "liberal" by the Church of God!

To say the least. Why isn't she wearing a wedding band? Could it be Todd took it away from her?!

I can almost hear Tammy Wynette singing in the background, "D.I.V.O.R.C.E."

Hee-hee!!

41. If a flag pin is a big deal then her ring is a big deal.
Doesn't she have one? Are they really married? Maybe he's the First Baby Daddy. LOL

I wear mine when I go out usually, but I think it's a habit more than anything. I'm not much for jewelry unless I'm dressing up for something. Being a stay-at-home mom, that's not too often! I'm not getting dolled up to grocery shop or take my son to school. I like my rings and they do mean something special to me. It's not about ownership, but more sentimental to me. My husband wears his when we dress up, but can't for work.
