Did anyone catch Bill Maher on Leno last night?
Was right after CNN finished with its analysis of the debate and I was curious what the late shows were saying. Letterman was having some female actor and Leno had Maher.

Maher was lamenting the fact that the "best" Democrats - Spitzer who went after Wall Street and Edwards who promoted fighting poverty - were banished for not keeping their pants zipped. And Leno, interestingly, came back and said that if these issues were so important for them, they should not have jeopardized them with their affairs.

1. I was a huge Edwards supporter, but I have to agree with Leno.

Whether or not someone has an affair is a private matter. I do not care if McCain cheated on his first wife. I do not care if Bill Clinton got a suck suck from someone other than his wife. I do not care what Edwards did. I do not care what some congressman does in a bathroom stall.

It is what they fight for. What they stand for. What they believe in that matters. That is what counts.

Fuck everything else. Understand?

Edwards had the makings of a top notch Attorney General. Is America really saying "He put his dick in some woman other than his wife, He can not serve in public office EVER AGAIN." - That means, no matter what he would fight for, No matter the good he would do. He is now automatically disqualified.

Fuck that America. I want the man/woman who is best ABLE to do the job at hand.

Thats it.

3. It matters only if it sinks a career and a cause
And the way we are moving backwards in this country, with so many people believing in angels and that the world is 5,000 years old, this is reality.

As was debated here several months ago: it was not the affair but judgment. Politicians work hard to match their messages to their audience and Edwards should have realized the folly of keeping a secret these days and once it was found this would have been the end of the campaign.

Yes. That's it, sadly. It hurts, hurts, hurts to lose someone like Edwards (for now--time passed and quiet good works in the interim may eventually bring him back) but that is the crux of the matter.

5. Sick of it as well. Doesn't have to be this way...this affair digging is practically an obsession...
