Dow Reminder: Discount the Current DJIA By -17% To Adjust For Inflation From 2001
As bad as the raw DJIA looks, it's actually worse.

The DJIA is arrived at by multiplying the average price of the 30 DJI stocks by a divisor that takes into account stock splits etc. But as author Kevin Phillips pointed out on Bill Moyers show (here: http://www.pbs.org/moyers/journal/09192008/profile.html), the dollar has devalued since 2001, which means that a DJIA of 10,000 in 2008 is actually worth 17% LESS than a 10,000 DJIA of 2001 (ie: when Clinton left office).

In real terms, a 2008 Dow @ 10,000 is a 8,300 DJIA in 2001 terms.

2. Thank you cheney*/bush*! Thanks for:
  1. Running two concurrent wars--excuse me, OCCUPATIONS--while cutting taxes, which has never been done before, and completely advised against.
  2. Cutting taxes for the richest of Americans.
  3. For presiding over the largest realignment of wealth in history, from the many to the few.
  4. For pressuring Greenspan and the Fed to continually cut interest rates to fuel the housing bubble to give a FALSE SENSE OF FINANCIAL SECURITY.
  5. For bloating the federal government to unprecedented levels, much of the benefit going directly to the Military-Industrial Complex.
  6. For squandering the Clinton/Gore surplus.
  7. For preventing any meaningful discussion about the US dependence on foreign oil.
  8. For squandering world-wide goodwill toward the United States.
  9. For encouraging world wide terrorism by thumbing their nose at justice and the rule of law.
  10. For involving the US in illegal and immoral wars of greed and arrogance, based solely on lies.
