History Question: didn't lots of papers that never take stands endorse FDR? |
|
I'm noticing a lot of places that usually never endorse presidents are endorsing Obama. Esquire mag is one. The Economist is another.
When FDR was running, didn't a good deal of non-political publications come out endorsing FDR?
I'm wondering if comparing Obama to JFK may be off - he seems like he is poised to be the next FDR...

2. The problem with capitalism is that we are married to the system |
|
Not the results
Same problem this little country across the pond called the USSR had, only with Communism.

There isn't any other end but power. What delight is there but to be part of great events? The sheer sense of control--power is the only end--- and if you don't like the code of the game, what is it then? Love of country? Let me see it in people who really command. How did the Tudors, Cecils, Brahmins rise? The source of power is money."

4. And here's Thomas Jefferson on corporations ... elites . . |

"...crush in its birth the aristocracy of our moneyed corporations, which dare already to challenge our government to a trial of strength and bid defiance to the laws of our country. Today, instead, the aristocracy of the corporation has grown to full maturity, wielding power over the state and its laws in the service of corporate aims." ~ Thomas Jefferson
What's new . . . ?
We have government representatives, capitalists - and our make-believe press pretending it's something new ---

A Soviet joke
Question: What is the difference between capitalism and communism?
Answer: Under capitalism, man exploits man.
Under communism, it's just the reverse.

5. The Economist has endorsed presidential candidates since 1980. |
|
Although it has sometimes opted out, as in 1988.

And just about every argument made against FDR has been made against Obama so that should make you feel good. :) I was blown away by him when he did the 2004 Keynote at the DNC.
As for capitalism being evil its neither good nor evil. It's simply a system of allocating resources the system isn't inherently evil. Capitalism provides individuals with the means to gains skills that transform parts of the world with the simply ability to choose between various options to achieve the results a person is looking to bring about in the system and the world. However this system is exposed to our basest nature that we all share, everyone, at some point, wants to be in charge. Period. And it is this very nature in us all that we place restraints on in the market place. These restraints come in the form of a regulatory frame work through which we attempt to place a set of check and balances on the system.

Obama reversed on that --
We'll also have to see how much he bends to military industrial intelligence complex --
and corporations/elites - DLC . . .
Will people and their needs come first ---??
As for capitalism . . . it isn't a typewriter which isn't either good or evil but dependent upon whose doing the writing....
Capitalism is an evil system -- a ridiculous "King-of-the Hill-System" intended to move a nation's resources and wealth from the many to the few. And highly successful in it in every way.
Capitalism isn't about competition -- it's about killing the competition.
Unregulated capitalism is merely organized crime.
And capitalism has failed repeatedly except in delivering huge wealth to the few by criminal and corrupt means . . . as we are experiencing once again--!!!
The sooner Americans understand that capitalism is not benign -- and that it is not synonymous with democracy the sooner we will recover.
