SHHHH Our Presnit is a socialist.....
Really....

Those same two brokers I have used before in an example were complaining today of that bank nationalization... don't tell them that it has not fully gone through, but it will, when all is said and done...

One of them even said that him and the wife were looking at moving from the now Socialist United States to a free country.

I suggested Somalia... since it fits his definition of personal freedom.

They didn't like my suggestion... at all... once the light bulb went up as to what libertarian paradise looks like.

Of course they started going over how this is ahem communistic....

I did to them what I have done here... I asked them for specifics... I mean if you are gonna call somebody a marxist, they did at one point... I want specifics on how this is actually marxist.... and the same goes for ahem socialist... and yes there is a difference.

Ah the glory and joy of flapping lips... And yes, in the current economy we all need our fun.

Perhaps I should start carrying my Adam Smith... as he has very ahem communist ideas in there, such as breaking monopolies... the wealth of nations... and how to make heads explode... and no... Das Kapital is not one I'd carry around.. mostly too many volumes... and been trying to cut down on what I carry on a daily basis.

As I said yesterday... the irony of the most right wing government in the modern period even going there is sweet...

2. Whenever someone says this, I just remind them:
If this was really socialism, we would all have healthcare.

3. Yes.
We would also all have prescription drugs, free education, free daycare, housing, food, and all other necessities. I'm confident Obama will help move us toward this ideal.

4. Why I asked for SPECIFICS... I am starting to realize that
they engage as they are trying hard to LEARN something

Their world was shaken HARD over the last three weeks

The hand of the market place is dead, at least as they understand the myth, not the reality of it

5. I like your Somalia idea.
"You wanna see small government at work? Go to Somalia."

I think the whole Milton Friedman, Chicago School, fundamentalist free market philosophy has received a serious blow. However, I wouldn't count them out as dead just yet. They have a lot of powerful corporate backers who stand to benefit immensely from their program.

10. They are not dead, will be back in a generation or so
my nephews will have to fight that battle

It seems it is every generation

For the moment this gov'ment intervention is the beginning of a lurch to the left

6. I have to disagree, this is not socialism
It is fascism. Socialism would do this to benefit the people, not the business world.

8. Exactly. There's a word for merging government and corporate
interests, and it isn't socialism.

14. I did- I agree with you on Adam Smith, too.
Edited on Thu Oct-09-08 02:27 PM by Marr
People who act like experts on "free markets" will almost always claim Adam Smith as one of their personal deities... but they've never actually read anything he wrote.

But what did you mean about reading the whole thing? If I'm missing something just let me know.

16. The hand of the market place is mentioned ONCE in the whole book
and he didn't mean at all, what they tell you.

The phrase is now myth

17. I read the whole thing
and I don't knee jerk. So enlighten me as to what you actually meant when you wrote it as I do not see where I misinterpreted anything.

13. Geez
Like Socialism would be a bad thing. We all need to be educated, healthy, and have a roof over our heads. If Socialism is what it is called, then bring it on. I'm not sure why people get all caught up in words. Oh, I forgot. Because the fright-wing Republican wackos are stupid. :hi:

15. Exactly... I had fun with them asking for specifics when they said
marxist and socialist in the same breath... I know there is a difference.

Reality is that this crisis will lead to a lurch to the left... the question in the US is how far left, since our left is truly center right when put on a world continuum
