My MIL is VOTING FOR ......., this is BIG!!!!
Edited on Thu Oct-09-08 06:38 PM by Heather MC

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

OK ladies and Gents, I have shared my story now and then, about my inlaws
I have been happily married for 7 years now. But in 2001 My new inlaws were not happy my Mocolatte Chocolate skin, was making a debute into their many many many generations of a white only family tree.

They came to our wedding, rearranaged the seating, so they could all sit together, and they never smiled. I never disrespected my husband's family ever. infact when our first son was born I sent them an email letting them know they are always welcomed in my home, and that I was never upset about their reaction because I understood they wanted the best for their son, and prayfully one day they would realize I make Mike Happy.

Slowly but surely that accepted me. Well this summer we went to OHIO to visit them, I didn't get into a deep political converstation with any of them. but Mike's mother told me she didn't like any of the choices. She didn't know who she would vote for but she was definately voting. The four days we were their, the only news station they watched was FAUX news. So I was like wow I guess these people are too far gone.

Well TODAY, My husband told her he voted, he didn't say for who but they went on to discuss some other things that will be on the ballot for Ohio. Then he asked, so who ya voting for?

She said you now McCain has more experience, but I think Obama is the smarter one. And McCain is going to cut Medicare, So I am voting for .....
OBAMA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She went on to say she didn't like the way McCain has been campaigning lately and she never even mentioned FAILIN!

PRAISE THE LORD, IF OBAMA can get her vote, he can take Ohio hands down. I have been in that town several times, I never see blacks in Medina Ohio. I know she is just one vote, but I am telling you guys this is the best knews ever!!!

PS for the record, His family has always loved our kids and that's all that mattered to me!

4. McCain's hatred forced them to vote for their self-interests: Medicare.
It's no wonder the GOP want to get rid of it.

I hope you're as happy as you sound in your post.

5. Medina White Folks voting for Obama!
Wonders never cease!

Damn right it's lilly white there. There was a Klan Rally in the county when I was growing up in Brunswick.

This is the same neighborhood that spraypained "Niggers go home" on my homefry Warner's garage door when his parents (both MDs I may add) moved in. We all got together and painted over it...but the sentiment is always there.

21. I live in Brunswick
And the Klan held that rally in Brunswick Township, at the time it was the farthest north the Klan held a public meeting and cross burning. I remember that day like it was yesterday. My father and I were on our way to Medina, and were turned back by a sheriff's deputy.

They 'didn't want any trouble' so they closed Rt. 42 and turned everyone around except those that were actually attending the meeting.

That day I learned that there were people that would do harm to others based on solely on the color of their skin, or which church they attended.

But were always black people in Medina, not many, true, and Brunswick has more minority families. Not too long ago there wasn't one black family in Brunswick.

26. I'll never forget what happened to the City Manager after 9-11
The whole cameras in his face for not giving city money for the families of the victims and the screams of "un-American." Lost his job after over 20 years of service to the city.

It is what made me truly loathe Republicans.

6. Kudos to you on compassionately holding back
and allowing those racist circuits to burn out on their own, which they did. Lesser people would not have handled the obvious slight at your wedding as well.

Their change of heart is entirely due to you, I think.

13. I have a very cavialier attitude about prejudice. I know
that most prejudice people, live in a very small box, they imprison themselves with their thoughts.

I didn't care what they did I had just married the man I love, and there wasn't a thing they could do about it.

Besides if my color is the only reason you dislike me, there is nothing I can do to change that. If I am mean or nice I am still black and proud.

So it was their problem not mine.

And I am pragmatic, the wedding was the beginning not the end all be all so I wasn't neve a bridezilla, I a not the kind of Chick. I approached my wedding like I was the man. Show me what to wear and where to stand

The bible says "COUNT IT ALL JOY!!"

I am not a bible thumping manic but I do like living by those words.
So that's what I attempt to do in my life. Of course it's hard to find the Joy with McLame having public Klan Meetings, but oh Joy it's not working on my MIL!!!

I didn't have nearly the mess you had to deal with, but my MIL hated my guts. Unfortunately never stopped. I just just went on about my business and showed appropriate respect. Now she's gone and my father in law is free to love me like their ain't no tomorrow.

You did better than I did, you won over your mother in law. That takes some serious grace and love. Your husband is one lucky fella. :)

38. My ex MIL reportedly said about me,
"Well, at least she is white. He could have married a Black." She was a Latina in another country and I was/am an US citizen. The funny thing is that the family has African heritage along with their European and indigenous ones. Her and I had our times where we got along and times we didn't. Some of those problems were caused by her and my actions but much was caused by my then husband's lying. After divorcing her son, I got to where I liked her much better. She lives in the US now and I wrote her a letter to make peace with her before one of us dies, and I heard she cried as she read it.

She has changed a lot over the years, she now accepts that her children did not all marry other Latinos. She accepts her grandchildren of all these marriages, and has (before the onset of Alzheimer's) come to show to everyone her kind heart. My son, the son of the eldest son, is very important to them and she loves him very much. She loves my daughter also, but the male is sometimes special in cultures.

40. Here it is two issue voters.
abortion and gay marriage. And sometimes they throw in gun control.

No, I don't understand them either although I may have been one at some time in my life, because I have not always voted smart. Now they drive me crazy, because this country is f*cked up beyond anything it has ever been during my lifetime. The country had problems during the fifties and sixties because of the lack of equality and the division between the hawks and doves (sixty talk...ha) but nothing compared to this mess up. I mean we have the war, we have economic failure, and we still have racism and all the other isms still holding us society's prisoners. (Perhaps that is why mccain referred to us as his fellow prisoners )

Vote for Obama. Yes, I can get behind that because he stands for more than just one issue. He stands for our country perhaps recovering a little of its pride and social morals.

12. My Assemblies of God preacher father is also voting Obama.
German immigrant, son of a nazi brown shirt, former friend of John Ashcroft and his father, went to Ashcoft's father's bible school in Missouri, voted for Bush twice, fundamentalist, wasn't happy at first about a non-white daughter in law 16 years ago.

Now retired, trying out different churches, opening his mind and voting for Obama.

The world is changing.

I still consider myself born-again but bowed out of organized religion in 1990 when I could see them trying to join church-and-state too much. I don't want a theocracy in this nation.

do so as a teen, once I could no longer be physically forced to go. It was a struggle at first of course. My parents concerned I was going straight to hell and all that.

25+ years later things are fine, but my sister still can't talk to me without being all pious. Sad state of affairs. But my parents and I are fine.

I have a wife, 2 kids, a house and a life of which they are all proud. We agree to disagree on religion is all.

I do believe Obama is an upright man who follows and believes in Christ. I can tell by how he acts, speaks, and his manner. If the church folk can't see this then they're blind. Well--you and I probably know the answer to that one! lol Tell your preacher father I'm glad to hear he is voting for him. I thought most AG people/pastors were probably too far gone by this time.

Only the fundies are going for mccain. I don't think it is as easy as all that, but I hope that at least close to 50% are going for Obama. Like you, I hope they can see the difference between the actions of Barack and mccain and which one behaves most like a morally strong compassionate human being.

It isn't about skin color. It's about fear.

They didn't like you for no reason other than the color of your skin. They were distrustful of your family because of the color of their skin. All racism begins with ignorance. They might not have been KKK members but they certainly seem racist according to your posts.

Oh well can't win em all over.
Yesterday I was in Danville Va, and 3 folks saw my Vets for Obama sticker on my truck.
They stopped and spoke to me each saying they were Republicans, but did not trust McCain,
and being Christians, Palin's Pentecostal faith made them afraid of the Theocracy thing if
she became president.
Our next door neighbors here in NC said the same thing, even calling McCain Mcsame.
