The Ohio Republican Party believes there is something voters should know about Ray Pryor, a Chillicothe Democrat running for the Ohio House.
A GOP mailer slams Pryor for supporting gay adoptions and now child advocates are slamming the Republican Party.
“Politicizing children in this way is shameful,” said Crystal Ward Allen, executive director of the Public Children Services Association of Ohio.
Allen said the flier is offensive, divisive and simply not true.
“Ray Pryor doesn’t want to raise Ohio’s children in the best environment. Instead, he supports same sex couples adopting our children. But our children need a mother and a father to thrive,” the mailer reads.
It urges voters to “Vote no on gay adoption. Vote no on Ray Pryor.”
Allen said a 2005 study by the American Academy of Pediatrics showed that children raised by same sex parents suffered no ill effects and may have experienced greater well-being, more nurturing and show greater tolerance for differences than their peers.
