Yikes.

13. Whether she leaves or not, this has been one strange campaign
Edited on Fri Oct-10-08 07:51 PM by ReadTomPaine
FYI - I just heard Lawrence O'Donnell say something to the effect that while the report is harshly critical, they say she was 'within her power as chief executive' to fire him. However, they are saying she abused the authority of her office and there are other questions, but the actual firing was not unlawful. Should be interesting to see how this plays out.

Excellent.

I doubt it will matter one whit to them. If anything, it makes her even *more* qualified for their ticket.

9. Too late- ballots are at the printer, early voting has started some places, and absentee ballots are
in the mail.

They are, to use the technical term, completely fucked.

Behind closed doors the repugs know they lost this one. And they are going to use the next four years to do some serious purging to make the party more people and 'eithinicly' friendly. To if nothing else avoid being nothing more than a regional party. I also think the religious right is one of the elements the repugs will purge post-election.

12. I've got 50 cents on her staying in place. It's almost too late
for McCain to do anything. He's likely out of theatrical gestures and the electorate, meanwhile, grows increasingly and justifiably uneasy about the future of the economy.

McCain, if he wanted to really be a maverick, should haven Ridge or Lieberman when he had the opportunity, but he let the fundie nutbags steamroll him in exchange for vigorous support. Bad trade.

If he wanted to appease the nutbags, he still chose poorly. He should have gone with Franklin Graham. With Graham, he would have thrilled the fundies far more deeply, motivated them to turn out at the polls, kicked in a major fundraising component, and would have taken North Carolina by a huge margin.

but much earlier in the election run-up.

Why drop Palin? Cheney's abused his office and he's still VP *shudder*

ironically that was a republican... let me see if I can dig some info

Here you go

President William McKinley's number two, Garret Hobart, died in 1899, and in 1900 the Republican convention named New York Gov. Theodore Roosevelt in his stead. William Howard Taft was elected in 1908 along with James Sherman. Just days before the election in 1912, Sherman died and was replaced on the ticket by Nicholas Butler.

Another crazy asshole with a ton of baggage.

He certainly would be a contrast to Miss Alaska -- who utterly despises East Coast politicians.

34. Doesn't matter. He's already lost.
He can't win without the fundie whack jobs she brings to the table and they'll hate him forever for dropping her. Well, he can't win anyway but he doubly can't win if he ditches her. None of his supporters care that she's ethically challenged. If they didn't have a problem with eight years of Bush are they really going to care that she tried to get her brother in law fired?
