This a sad turn of events....this really make our election process look like a JOKE....Pathetic when race or someones name become a talking point.....more when shit miss-information is allowed to rise to the level of hateful spew at rally's.

12. I'm sorry you feel that way, but…

The tactics used in this campaign are really no different than what a lot of AAs deal with on a daily basis -- it's just on display nationally. Names on resumés and schools attended are all used to weed out applicants. I know, because it's happened to me. People would assume that I was white because of my maiden name and the university where I received my BA. I've submitted resumés for jobs for which I more than qualified. Interviews will be set up. And then I'd walk through the door. I've had employers look at my resumé, look at me and want to verify I am who I say I am. Don't get me wrong, it makes me angry. But if I internalized that crap, I'd lose my mind! I don't define myself based upon misguided notions of idiots. I have to be stronger than that. And I see that in Obama. What's happening to him is not a surprise. He knew it was coming and he knew how nasty it was going to get. That's why I'm so glad he has Michelle by his side to give him strength when he needs it.

I have a 10 year old son who absolutely adores Obama. I never thought I would live to see the day when a black man would become the nominee. But my son can see a black man, a man who looks just like him, become president! My husband and I tell him he can be anything he wants to be -- the sky's the limit. Obama is tangible proof. His victory won't eliminate racism, but it sure will render the tactics used in this election ineffective.

So forgive me if I choose not to be maudlin tonight. I feel feel victory is within our grasp, and I plan to dance, dance, dance!
