The next time a Republican says Democrats will kill the economy
use this easy to read chart from the NYT. I always suspected it to be true, but never had the ability to crunch the numbers. Over the last 80 years or so, $10K invested and held during Republican administrations would have risen to $51K (excluding Hoover-with Hoover, it's @ $11K) and $10K invested and held during Democratic administrations would have risen to more than $300K.

12. Very telling; great find and thanks
Roosevelt and Clinton are not surprising; but job creation under Jimmy Carter was a surprise even to me.

10. This is a great chart - K&R
Does anyone know why the writer of the op-ed chose the S&P and not the DJIA? I'm just curious because I want to use this, but I have a feeling there is some RWer out there who would ask the same question, and I'd like to have an answer because I'm not very smart when it comes to economics.

Also, I saw a chart somewhere (maybe on DU) which showed how most all the major recessions occurred under Republican presidents. I wish I could find it again. Those two charts along with the jobs creation chart would be especially devastating.

11. The S&P 500 is a much broader index, much more accurately reflective of the value of the market
being composed of 500 companies rather than just 30.

19. Something that shuts 'em up every time:
"We heard the same B.S. before Clinton enacted his policies. Do you have any new material? Seriously?"
