Now that the AIP is coming to the consciousness of the average Murican
one has to wonder what possessed McCain to pick a woman with such huge skeletons and not the most simple of background done?

I mean the calculation was to go after joe sixpack (whoever that is) and against the urbanite lib'ruls, but still... One has to wonder

1. What possessed him?
That assumes facts not in evidence. Namely, that he picked her, and that was she vetted on anything other than Culture Wars issues before she was chosen.

4. Again, by saying "what possessed him"
Edited on Tue Oct-14-08 03:15 PM by orestes
you're assuming he actually had any say in the matter. I don't think he did, or we would be talking about Vice Presidential candidate Joe Lieberman instead.

edit to add: We do agree that she was chosen for her Culture Wars credentials and any other vetting could only have been cursory. We just disagree on who did the choosing ;)

7. I've never believed McCain had any choice re: Palin
I'm pretty sure the PTB told him either you take her or you have no realistic shot at winning.

Until Palin started opening her mouth on news programs she was doing exactly what she was intended to do.

6. He thought that the Republican-controlled media would never go there.
He has been used to kid glove treatment from them all these years-even calling them 'his base' at one point-so why should he expect them to uncover the truth? He just assumed that he would receive the same brown-nosing that he's received for decades.

13. Well, it worked there for a while.
Crazy wingnuts in the base were getting GOPer voters all fired up with Obama and McCain closing the polling gap between them. GOPers probably thought that the stranglehold they have on the media would keep most of the skeletons out of the public's eye.

14. It would be nice if it WAS coming to light.
It could stand more discussion on the blogosphere. Every time I post about it I get at least one or two blank stares. And the folks I know in my very ultra-liberal hometown don't even believe me about AIP (or the bail-out.)
