... the abortion issue? At least that is the ones I keep seeing interviewed on cable TV if those reports are accurate.

Usually the story goes these people are in financial straits now and their priorities appear to have changed.

Anyone else been seeing a lot of these conversions?

1. A few I know. Here is my theory
I think they know nothing will change with a Republican admin, so they might as well vote their pocketbooks. I mean, GW was their great hope and Roe is still intact.

2. Bush with a republican majority for six years wouldn't do it

I think you are right they are figuring out the Repig leaders don't want it to go away either or it would have.

Good point you made.

3. I don't understand why they all flock to abortion but they do.
These bastards don't care about children or people, why do they love zygotes?

It's probably because none of them ever has to actually TAKE CARE of someone else's zygote.

They're ignorant, stupid, fearful people. If they're crossing over despite abortion, McBigot must be finished.

11. Mike, they're no risk heros! There's zero chance they will be asked

to take care of a pregnancy, there's zero chance a gay person will tank their marriage, there's zero chance liberals will "pall around with terrorists" because terrorists come from THE RIGHT. There's zero chance Democrats will grab their guns because we don't grab.

Do you see a pattern here?

4. let's look at it this way. How long has it been since
they voted for someone that outright lied to them? Didn't do a damn thing he promised to do when he was running for the office. On top of that, they watched their jobs go overseas, their kids get killed in a nation building excercise, the cost of living increase more than they can remember, gas prices go through the roof and the bankers walk away with their retirement.

And this is the guy they thought they could have a beer with, not knowing he'd drink all the beer, eat all the chips, piss on the furniture and set their house on fire while stealing their car.

Maybe some would call it "tough love", I call it, "Stupidity of the rightwingers"

Peace.

6. Single-issue voters
lock in on their issue and ignore everything else. Abortion tops the list.

Sadly for them, their elected representatives have failed (miserably) to answer their concerns. The current Republican Party is as mush-mouthed as Lindsey Graham: rampant hypocrisy, corruption, and an all-too-apparent disregard for the working person in favor of lining the pockets of special interests.

Keep in mind that, for every 'conversion' we see, many more will only 'convert' when they're in the booth pressing levers.

November 4 is going to be a great day. I can feel it.

their concern for their bank accounts.

If you really are of the opinion that abortion is murdering a baby, as they claim-- then *no* economic argument should ever dissuade you. Happy to have their vote, of course-- but the position you describe reeks of moral cowardice. Nothing new there.

8. Absolutely, that used to be the "moral" conservatives ace in the
hole, "I can't vote Democratic because of the abortion issue". Now, with their jobs and retirement at stake, that seems to have taken precedence over the poor aborted fetuses. Suddenly the abortion issue seems to have lost much its importance to these people. So much for the "morality" of the right wing ideologues.

At least, I know some conservative republicans who can or will not vote for McCain this year, but still cannot bring themseslves to vote for Obama, so will sit out this year's election and just not vote.

9. Yes, and I think the media is making WAY too big a deal over the
"He has to apease his base" issue. When life was just rolling along for these people, they set their priorities on one thing that, for religious reasons, has bugged them ever since the SCOTUS decision 30 years ago. In case yo didn't notice, all those women interviewed appeared to be, errr...living a comfortable life. Nothing ShrubCO said or did really affected THEM, or at least not that they could feel, and those nice tax cuts there husband's were getting were GREAT!

SUDDENLY, THEIR OWN personal world is being hit, and in some cases, hit hard. Those high gas prices have crimped their ability to drive that nice big SUV all the time. Food prices have gone up so much & so quickly, they've had to back off buying those steaks & lamb chops. Hubby is in a pissy mood because his stock portfolio has lost A LOT! Their houe value has dropped. And worst of all, the poor little lady actually has to COOK NOW because they don't have the extra money to go out to eat 5 nights a week!

DUers have been constantly asking why people vote against their own interests. I always respond by saying they don't pay any attention UNTIL things affect them PERSONALLY! Well folks, IT'S FINALLY AFFECTING THEM PERSONALLY!!!!!

votes for the non-incumbant every single election..so this year he is voting for Obama because the repubs are in power...four years from now he'll vote for the repub..he only does this for executive offices ie mayor, county exec, governor and president...go figure!
