“I admire so much Sen. Obama’s eloquence,” is code for - Not one of us. Not plain-spoken. Elitist. Intellectual. Speaks well but says nothing. Not a straight talker. (because he uses big words and arranges them so nicely). People can't understand him (again - because he uses big words and arranges them so nicely and, golly gee, Joe the Plumber just doesn't understand those 25 cent words).

McCain is saying Obama can't talk to "the people" - and while this should insult "the people" (because it is insulting), video footage of McCain-Palin supporters have shown us that some people want their President to be as ignorant as they are - a President that doesn't challenge them to be better - to do better. They want a President that will feed their fears and validate their prejudices.

I understood it as McCain trying to say that you can't trust anything Obama says. He's trying to tell people to dissect his words until you think you find a nefarious meaning.

i've been watching the lurid highlights first. That comment sounds to me like a sort of code-speak for anyone who is either a)unsure of the meaning of the word 'eloquence' or b)a warning to beware of 'non plain' speakin' folks.

It's really appealing to the lowest common denominator and in a way I feel that you folks are, in general, beyond this kind of shit. Even the lowest common denominator cannot be fooled forever.

Come the day when the world's media is full of reports on 'how eloquently the president of the USA spoke...'
