1. My biggest fear is that someone will at least try to kill him.
The fuckers are shouting "Kill him!" at Republican gatherings - not to big a step to believe one of 'em will try to assassinate Obama.

2. It could happen. We lost 4 presidents that way.
Admitting the possibility is simply accepting unfortunate reality. She sounds a little too sure though...

4. So, sounds like she was suggesting it, while saying "too bad" this is going to happen.
Mentioning assassination, as a McCain voter, can't be innocent, if you ask me.

14. If I, an Obama supporter, "mention" it if McC should win, makes me guilty?
Of what, exactly?

22. Let me see if I understand your question.
If you, as an Obama supporter, suggest McCain might be assassinated after a win by McCain, what are you guilty of?

If that's the question, then you are guilty of sheer stupidity because Palin would then become President.

A lot depends on tone - you could be suggesting that you WANT McCain to be assassinated, in which case, you could find the Secret Service knocking on your door for making threats against the President.

5. I could not believem y ears when I heard someone in a store that I was in, make that same comment,
also in a matter-of-fact manner. It made my blood run cold. I said that I thought that would be a horrible thing for this country..whether you liked Obama or not. Assasinations are traumatic experiences for any country, and the entire world.
She just looked at me, no comment.

6. Never buy that logic
Of course, it's possible, but we need to stop it from becoming a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Counter it every time you hear it, even if you harbor the fear in your own heart. We really need to make the national mood one of "they wouldn't dare" or "things will be so much better under him."

We need to ramp up the positive reinforcement and not let the negative attitude become the "common wisdom."

13. Ignore the threat and it will go away?
I prefer watchful security. Surely you don't think Obama isn't smart enough to consider the possibility....do you?

20. I didn't say that at all
I never said ignore the threat -- I just said counter the attitude that it's inevitable in the minds of the public. If that cancer is allowed to spread, it will become a self-fulfilling prophecy.

You'd be amazed what positive reinforcement can do, versus just saying -- oh yeah, it's gonna happen.

7. I hope not.
For his sake, and his family's. There's nothing like a political rally to energize the home-grown terrorist movement.

And because I don't want to see him made a martyr.

I'd rather see him serve out his term/s, and see him, and his positions, portrayed with some reality for posterity.

12. I've heard people say
that they are surprised that someone has not tried the same thing with bush. An assassination of any political figure in America would put even more shame on our country. I'm hoping that the people who are thinking this about Obama will change their minds after he gets in office and they see how Obama's plans will benefit them.

16. Well, considering that W has virtually never shown his mug in public
outside carefully vetted and populated venues, it would have been damn hard. Actually, I was very surprised some RW nutcase didn't shoot at Clinton given his propensity for ambling openly among huge crowds!

17. I do fear for the man and his family
There are too many of these unhinged right-wingers in the world, which makes me irate when all we ever hear from them is how much WE hate Bush and that WE are the crazies!

But I also know that in his mind he probably realizes that this is the chance anyone who runs for president takes.

18. As disturbing as this talk is...
I remember back when Colin Powell was thinking about running and just about everyone I knew in Newark was saying, "If he does, he ain't making it to Election Day."

The fear is real, and the threat is probably just as real with all the crazy bastards out there, but I gotta trust the Secret Service is on top of it.

24. I have a solution to help prevent it...
Wherever the attempt is made the state Republican Party Chair and the county Republican Party Chair shall lose all of their property and be put in prison for life. I prefer a much harsher but had to tone it down.

This way the Republican Party will promote due diligence to prevent any attempts.

26. I hear the same thing every day, from several people...
I've even heard it as an excuse NOT to vote for him: "it'd just be a waste of my vote 'cuz he'd be dead and we'd have someone different for president anyways...", or some variation of that sentiment.
