Is this really worth seeing? The Mrs. and I are debating on a very rare theater screening of a movie.

...okay. I saw it yesterday with my wife. It was kind of long (2 and a half hours or so) but it was kind of interesting.

You will wonder in amazement how that man ever got to that office. We are a nation of dupes.

7. Uhmm. We've been living this national nightmare for nearly eight years. |
|
Why in fuck's name would you want to go see a recap of the last eight years?

I expected to see a caricature of the "W" we have all come to know and despise, but Stone really does provide a believable portrayal of the troubled ne'er-do-well older son of Bush '41 and his rise to power via luck and a great deal of family influence. Josh Brolin is superb as the alcoholic frat boy who fails at every job, but emerges, in spite of himself, to national leadership. Elizabeth Banks is equally superb as the liberal-democrat librarian/teacher turned enabler-in-chief. James Cromwell as the disapproving Father Bush accompanied by Ellen Burstyn's "Barbara" loom constantly as hot wires probing at the brain of "The Decider". Richard Dreyfus' Dick Cheney is right on the mark, as the oil-hungry veep, plotting the permanent occupation of Iraq. The end of the film leaves us where we are today, stuck with a failed president without a clue as to how he can solve the mess he's created.

10. While I appreciate what Stone is apparently trying to do here |
|
I don't plan to see the movie until it comes out on DVD.
I know with any human being, there's a universe of complexity and contradiction. As much as I dislike Bush, I believe this applies to him as well. He is not the total epitome of evil. However, through his arrogance, his greed, his ignorance, his callousness, etc., he has inflicted such colossal damage on our country and the world, that I'm not particularly interested in considering the complex ambibuity of the man that Stone is determined to portray.
That says more about me than Stone's movie, I know. But I firmly believe Bush stole at least the 2000 election (and I suspect he stole 2004 as well); he lied us into an unnecessary and illegal war; he imposed a police state apparatus on us; he was, at best, incompetent in the lead up to the 9/11 attacks (at worst, he was complicit); and he gleefully took every opportunity to rub our noses ("our" being those who opposed him) in every rigged outcome he and Rove orchestrated.
Sorry, Mr. Stone. I ain't all that interested in seeing the tragic humanity of such a pathetic source of destruction, division, and dereliction that has been the "presidency" of George W. Bush.
