My community is a federal disaster area because of flooding. FEMA is still a mess! |
|
I'm working with my faith denomination's disaster relief coordinator, doing what we can to help, as part of a larger effort of many agencies. I was just talking with the community coordinator of all the agencies' work with flood victims. She is SOOOOO frustrated with FEMA! Said the two FEMA people assigned to our town don't talk to each other. She gives info to one of them, then gets a call from the other asking for the same info. When she says, "I've already given that to FEMA", she's told FEMA doesn't have the info. When she tells them she gave it to the other person, she has literally been told they don't communicate with each other!! And they offer no instruction or orientation for people dealing with a disaster for the first time (as everyone here is).
And this is AFTER they were supposed to improve things after Katrina. Now I see fully why things went so bad in NOLA. If they can't handle a small crisis like ours (106 households affected in the county), how could they even begin to deal with tens or hundreds of thousands of victims in NOLA.
Please, kick these people out of Washington!!

Thanks for the hug. I'll send it on to the flood victims.

3. It's purposeful incompetence, which makes it all the more reprehensible. Please |
|
do pass on the hug/love. I wish I had something more to give right now. :(

4. When you can, give to your denomination's relief work, One Great Hour of Sharing, |
|
Church World Service, the American Red Cross, that sort of thing. They're the ones doing the real work here, with the real competence and expertise. It helps that they've had funds (and clean-up kits, and health kits, etc) at the ready beforehand. So, give to them as you're able, so that these supplies are built up and ready to go when needed.
Thanks! :hi:

8. You're welcome. Liberals don't forget about people's real needs just because ... |
|
... it's not politically expedient.
I hope you can get the help you need before winter comes.
