Pizzeria offer to swap slices for McCain signs cheeses off some

WARREN -- Police Commissioner William Dwyer said a pizzeria owner won't be charged after a recent promotional campaign led to thefts of Sen. John McCain yard signs.
Dwyer said he received numerous complaints that McCain lawn signs were being stolen and taken to a pizzeria on 13 Mile and Ryan in exchange for a free mini pizza with one topping. "We confronted the owner yesterday and she was very concerned and upset," he said. "She had no malicious or criminal intent for anyone to steal signs for a piece of pizza."
The promotion only intended for people to bring in their own McCain signs since he no longer campaigns in Michigan, said Diana Franzoni, owner of Salvatore's Pizzeria.
Franzoni put up a sign inside the pizzeria the day she read that McCain pulled out of Michigan. The sign said "McCain gave up on Michigan. Michigan should give up on McCain. Bring in your McCain lawn signs for one free mini pizza with one topping."
