Why should I vote? My vote never really matters (solid-red state). |
|
Apart from the primaries, not ONE of my presidential election votes through the years has counted for beans. Why should I bother? My presence at the polls, my vote, only lends to the APPEARANCE of fair political representation, but it's really all a fascade.

And the downticket races could change the make-up of the Senate and civil liberities in your state.
Obama is clearly going to win California, but there is a change David Drier could lose his seat, Prop 8 is a bigoted prop against Marriage Equality and Prop 4 is erroding at choice.

The electoral votes will determine the outcome of the election. However, the popular vote will be tallied and discussed endlessly. Your vote counts just as much there as a blue state vote.
Also, what about the rest of the ticket?

Orange County, California, is probably the most conservatives county in the country, with deep generous pockets. But in 1992 many voted for Clinton. No, he did not carry it but is still being viewed as the smallest margin for a Republican candidate to carry.
Smaller margins in solid red districts will send the message that Republicans no longer talk to most of the voters. Will be important in future activities and future elections. Perhaps even will affect local elections.

that Democrats live there, make them notice you, and in a cycle or two, we can turn your state blue.

Everything starts somewhere. Imagine how useless I have felt calling Senator Liddy Dole's office with my requests for her support. Same thing, I feel your pain :)

change this country in the way you want it to go, and you dismiss democracy. If we all felt as you do now, the idiots would rule forever.
Your vote says you are a citizen and your wishes are as important as anyone else's.
You really don't know how people will vote once in the booth. They could be with you and your vote could change the race.
Vote for your future.
Vote for our kids and all of our future.
Vote. It is your right and your honor.
We all will thank you.

Solid blue, and my vote would just be one more of an overwhelming margin.
On top of that, my Drivers License has a non-existent address.
