OK, I'm outta here! Folks, I've had it. I'm leaving. |
|
Er, for Spain that is. I'm leaving for JFK this afternoon and will be in Madrid tomorrow am.
will return the day before Election Day and already AB voted. Gobama!
Basque lands, Pamplona and Barcelona here I come!
I'll be able to keep an eye on things on CNN and the International Herald Tribune in the bigger cities but prolly not in the little Basque towns.
It will be interesting to hear what the Spanish people are saying about our election. I expect them to be wildly for Obama, though!
My report when I get back.
Adios...

2. Find the internet while you are there. We could use some real time reports. |

Be our DU reporter in Spain.
Ask them about McCain's refusal to meet with their president.

11. Good topic! Yes I will |
|
Internet time costs mucho Euro, tho. I found that out in northern Italy last May. I'll be online here with all the other crazed DUers on Election Day!
Take care. Gobama!

5. Barcelona is one of my favorite cities in the world..... |
|
.... I visited in 2005, with memories of Kerry-Bush '04 still fresh, and remember a "Fuck the USA' scrawling in one of the metro stations.... But people were very respectful and friendly toward us as individual Americans with clearly different worldviews than Bush, but "America" as a collective was on the Catalonian shit list.

Barcelona is one of the great cities of Europe. But you're wise to get into the countryside, too. Make sure to take some trains and rent some bicycles. Oh, and drink plenty of orange juice and hot chocolate.

|
We'll prolly venture into France briefly...
This is all about art and architecture. I'm going on one of the Smithsonian's bargain tours (which they don't advertise much but you can find on their website). Not for everybody, but enough time for food and wine and a little shopping. Very art heavy, which I love...

If you have a chance, going to and from Barajas, check out the leaning skyscrapers a mile or two up the Castellana in Madrid.
Creepy for sure!

I know...I know...you're thinking "I'd NEVER...". But sooner or later you'll be sitting in a little bar, drinking some really fine sherry, and you think "Well, what-the-hell. You only go around once. Why not give it a shot? How bad could it be?" And BINGO! You got a horn up your butt. Stay away from the bulls. ;-)

I love northern Spain, especially Barcelona and the Costa Brava. Andorra is lovely too. The last time I was in Spain was in '92 right before Bill Clinton was elected. Very interesting time right after the Olympics and almost everyone was pro-Clinton there.

But that was before Obama fever really hit!
The whole world really IS watching this American election, like never before. There will be dancing in the streets all over Europe when Obama is elected!

I got them the last time I walked. Spent a lot of money at laundromats washing out my stuff while on the road, & then I put everything in the freezer for a few weeks when I got home to make sure all those lil buggers were dead.
