I ran over an Elizabeth Dole sign last night
It was an accident.

I was on my way home last night and I was getting ready to turn left when I noticed a Dole for Senate sign on the right side of the road between a telephone pole and a fence, about 10 feet off the road and up a slight incline. Like many people, I tend to swing wide right when turning left and accidentally managed to run over the sign.

I was horrified by what I might have done but I wasn't entirely sure I had run it over, so I backed up and accidentally ran it over a second time. Damn.

Now that I was sure that I had run it over I panicked and stepped on the gas, running it over yet again. I didn't stop (except for stop signs, pedestrian crosswalks, busses and traffic signals) until I was home.

I have a question. Do you think I should call the Dole campaign and offer to pay for the sign?

5. Smells a bit like I ran over a dead skunk.
I can douse it with tomato juice. That's supposed to help with dead skunk smell...

I hear they work wonders in Alaska...

2. No. After all, as you said, it was an accident.
Accidents happen, and no one got hurt, and there couldn't have been that much damage to property that nobody wants back, anyway.

3. Hey, you did good.
LOL and you made my day for a good laugh. Don't pay for the sign, they're better off not knowing what hit them.

;-)

9. But since she's had to take $3 million out of her personal stash to keep running I feel bad
I don't have $3 million. I might have $30. I guess I can go without gas for a week to make up for all the hardship I've put her through...

14. Considering the lousy job she has done for us, $.07 should cover her worth.
After all, she IS 93rd in effectiveness in the US Senate.

10. Me too. I just had the two front tires replaced. I can't afford any more.
I found out the brakes work and leave awesome looking skid marks on political signs.

7. I would say yes.
Not that I have any love for Senator Dole mind you. The person who owned the sign has no idea it was an accident, and they might think you're doing the same kind of thing wingnuts have been doing to Obama/Biden signs.

13. I'd pay the person who bought it but none of the Dole signs are actually in yards
It doesn't seem that anyone wants to own up to supporting her so they're all on public property, usually at intersections. Maybe I'll shoot her an email and ask her if she can tell me who bought the sign and I'll drop a $10 bill off at their house.

If the signs are on public property, I don't what I'd do exactly.

11. OMFG
:spray:

You owe me a keyboard.

I read this to my aunt. She's the expert at these types of things. She said to tape a nickel and two pennies to a postcard and make sure to pay the postage to cover the weight of the nickel, the pennies, and the postcard.

She said to write on the postcard, "I'm so sorry that I ran over one of your campaign signs. I estimated your value, being 93rd in the Senate for effectiveness, and sent enough to cover you. I'm sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused you."

I come from a long line of smart asses.

12. You swing 10 feet off the road to the right while making a left turn?
You need driving lessons.

Do you think I should call the Dole campaign and offer to pay for the sign?

Yes, that would be the right thing to do.

Normally I'm a very good driver. And, in all fairness, I did miss the telephone pole and the fence.

22. I'm not sure I can make it there
There have to be 2000 Dole or McCain signs between Raleigh and Fayetteville. That's a lot of off road driving...

But as long as you didn't run over a lawn-watering system, you should be OK.
