Mass job cuts in Ohio double
Nearly 6,000 Ohioans lined up for unemployment insurance benefits after mass job losses in September, which ranked as the nation’s worst month for large-scale employee cuts since September 2001, according to a federal report released Wednesday.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported 32 dismissals of 50 workers or more in the state last month, up from 29 a year ago, seasonally unadjusted. The number of companies cutting jobs increased only slightly, but resulting first-time unemployment insurance claims more than doubled to 5,912 from 2,579 in September 2007.

Around the nation, mass job cuts jumped 74 percent to 2,269 events from 1,307 a year ago, seasonally adjusted. Unemployment insurance claims as a result were up more than 80 percent at 235,681, versus 128,487 last year.

More than one in three people lining up for unemployment benefits last month lost a manufacturing job, bureau data showed.

2. ..But yet they vote for Mean Jean Schmidt and Bushbot....
.. and they line up and cheer to to see Sarah Palin. I don't get it? As a former Buckeye I've watched the steel mills and the car plants close... while these people vote against their own best interest.

3. Well, not all of us line up to see Palin.
If you recall, Ohio was blue in 2004.

The M$M were calling it for Bush while I was watching on my local news...people lined up around buildings after midnight, still waiting to vote. Coincidental that this happened in a Dem stronghold.

So yes, I do believe that Ohio was "blue" in 2004.

And let's not forget Ken Blackwell....

6. Unfortunately, those who do make the state look really bad
just as "Joe" the plumber did.

In the age of youtube, they earn the state a reputation that doesn't exactly attract new businesses or investment.

9. I thought that I read here somewhere
That "Joe the Plumber" was a Repub. plant and from somewhere in Alaska where one can see Russia from their backyards? (I didn't keep up with the "Joe" story.....sounded to be BS to me)

10. Actually, he has some ties to Arizona
Which is where he lost his license for driving without insurance and running a red light- then failing o pay the ticket.

Odd that he was able to get an Ohio license, while his Arizona license was suspended. Apparently, he slipped through the cracks in the system.
