You realized of course that 3 months from now this website will be dead
Prediction: By the end of January, a week and a half after the inauguration, this web site will not get 1/3 of the daily traffic it does today. Do you agree?

1. LOL! Apparently you have forgotten the primaries.
Democrats love to fight among themselves.

3. And in 2010 traffic will go up again.
Political websites usually get more traffic during the leadup to an election.

disagree
It will drop, but not that much. And, once we have a Dem leading the nation, and a whole lot more Dem's in place in general, it's still our duty to hold their feet to the fire. I'm elated to see Obama win, but he's nowhere near "left" enough for me, and moved to the center in recent months as a tactic. We're still spending $500,000 a day for the "war" in Iraq, among a whole lot of other serious problems. Kos has it right - you never stop pushing to institute the Progressive agenda, or the fascist scum will rise right back up. "The struggle is never over."

...
That's $435,000,000.00

7. it will slow down. In some ways it is more fun being the insurgent than
"The Man." So it will be an adjustment for us who have spent all these years in the trenches.

12. We still won't be "The Man"
I think most of DU will be very vigilant about making sure Obama makes good on the promise of "Change." And I think most of us are to his left, so it will continue to be a struggle, perhaps just not as desperate/urgent as before.

29. Oh yeah, we will have to make sure all our Dem reps do right by us.
We will probably be busy debunking false charges from the right, just like during the Clinton years.

8. It might slow down a little, but we will still be here hashing out ideas of
what President Obama can be doing, complaining about RW hate media, gnashing our teeth over the economy (and rightfully so). Etc, etc, etc

There will always be something for us to talk about. We're gabby people. It's what we do. :P

9. I don't agree. The need to discuss and disseminate information under conservative
media ownership will keep sites like this relevant. And there's no way the Right is going to take a passive approach to Democratic leadership. You can bet they're ready to hatch their chaotic plans.

13. Absolutely no chance
I give it less than two months before there is rampant twitter about Obama being a DINO Blue Dog plant and Clintonian traitor because he doesn't immediately end all free trade agreements, institute 90% tax rates on incomes above $100K, have the Feds arrest Cheney and Bush and every single cabinet member who worked for them, or whatever nonsense can be thought up to make him a disappointment and not a "real" progressive.

14. No, I don't believe that will happen
Every criticism of President Obama will result in a proliferation of "Did you hear what those racist, sexist, homophobic $%^&*@s said about our President?" threads.

And that is fine with me.

15. I got news for you, pal. Our work will only have just STARTED. . .
AFTER the inauguration. Then the real hard work kicks in.

Getting our candidates elected is the easy part. It will be up to people like us at DU to keep their feet to the fire and pass the legislation needed to repair our country.

So while traffic volume may decrease a little bit, it won't be by much. Obviously, some of us will need to vacation, rest and recharge ourselves after all this - but many of us will be back.

:kick:

16. Thom, I think you're wrong.
The site will be consumed with internecine warring that will eclipse the primaries. The Democrats have at least three broad factions: uberliberal (progressive) ...... liberal ....... moderate/conservative.

Obama will not be able to serve all three.

All three will fight constantly.

18. We're just putting a fresh jockey on the same sway-backed nag,
We've got our foot in the door, we can't stop now. Many so called Democrats need to be replaced in the primaries, simple party affiliation is not enough to represent WE the people.

We are fielding a Presidential candidate who votes to the right of Robt. Byrd...there's plenty to do.

22. It will be quieter but it won't be dead. Once you look into the abyss of politics,
it's hard to look away. It's finally reached a crescendo this election. People woke up from their deep slumber to discover they've woken into a real life soap opera with real consequences. The pain people are and will continue feeling financially and otherwise has put the desire to search for what the hell happened into their morning routine.

I don't know about you but those around me I've been trying to shake awake to no avail, have finally come around to becoming extremely engaged. They call me now instead of the other way around to tell me about the unbelievable things they discovered have been happening under the Bush nightmare.

It will take a generation before they let go. Like the 1930s generation who are still aware of politics to this day, this new wave of concerned citizens too will remain engaged.

25. Partly right - concern trolls, agitators and even the occassional reporter
will stop checking in - that's pretty certain.

But a lot of us will still be here holding the ones we send to Washington and state capitals accountable. Unlike the other side, we don't think it's simply important to elect someone with the right Letter behind their name. We think that it's critical that we elect people who will do the right thing when they're there, and listen to us when we think they aren't.

And then of course, we're Dems - we have to fight amongst ourselves - it's part of the dysfunction that makes our family what it is!

sponsor it anymore. There is just too much work to be done and it will take decades. I surely will be gone before then, but I hope to live long enough to see this cancer being excised from my country.
