Just put it right in a Freeper's face. Damn that felt good!
I wore my new Obama shirt into the local HEB store just awhile ago. The woman greeter who doubles as a part-time preacher, and who I must say is a nice enough person, started the following conversation:

Greeter: No. You are not wearing that Obama shirt.

Me: Yes. Nice shirt, and the right man for the job, too.

Greeter: No, I don't think so.

Me: You need to look at the issues.

Greeter: I'm looking at the issues, but I've got my spiritual eyes on and I'm seeing terrorists. (Presumably God grants the anointed special powers to see terrorists.)

Me: There are terrorists alright, and their names are Bush, Cheney, McCain and Palin.

I don't think she cared much for that last remark. She muttered something after that, but I was already walking away. I'd had my way with her, so to speak. Time to go get the groceries. Again, she's always nice enough, but I couldn't resist the opportunity to educate her a bit. After all, she signed up for the class when she took issue with my very cool shirt.

6. Nah, again she's pretty nice. She's not a malicious person.
She's just deluded. If she had been ugly about it I wouldn't hesitate to report her, but it's not like that. She just doesn't know any better. There are a lot of them like that. They're not bad people. They're just idiots.

4. K&R This woman is a terrible greeter.
This is a public store isn't it? She shouldn't be telling you what shirt to be wearing, just as long as you have a shirt, pants, and shoes on.

5. They can't see how they are being lead. How has their last
choice helped them or our country? Why can't they remember the corruption and how can they not see that our country has been sold off and our rights have been legally stolen by Republican Corporate rule. How can they want more of it?

"Night of the Living Dead". They think you're one of them til you open your mouth or do something to give yourself away, like being a free thinker with a reasoned informed point of view. Then they hiss and point like Donald Sutherland at the end of the movie so all the others will know you haven't been indoctrinated yet.

11. I really like the last line of your OP "...she signed up for the class when she took issue
with my very cool shirt."

I'd like to use that from time to time. I think it's better than what I've been using "When people are monumentally dumb they have a right to know, and it's my responsibility to tell them."

13. As the Internet marketers like to say,
Edited on Sat Oct-25-08 10:35 PM by anotheryellowdog
all my lines are fully brandable and come with complete resale rights. Knock yourself out. :hi:

- Edited in remembrance of my high school algebra teacher, the by now most certainly late Lola Adams: She used to tell us "Alright, listen up, you brainless wonders." It's been forty-five years, but I will never forget that woman. She was, I think, truly gifted intellectually. Fortunately for myself and many others, she chose to teach high school. Your own comment about feeling an obligation to educate the dumb reminds me of her.

14. Which brings to mind yet another pedagogical witticism, also
from high school if I remember correctly. As I recall, this one came from my Latin teacher, Ms. Ilanon Moon:

"Teachers are intellectual Robinhoods. They rob from the gifted, and give to the dumb."

15. My canvassing story
A local jackass approached us when we were talking to his neighbor, a Repbulican who is voting Obama

Jackass: "Don't ask me to sign those!" he said, pointing at our clipboards.

Me: "We didn't ask you to sign anything."

Jackass: "Are they for Barack HUSSEIN Obama?"

Me: "Comeon, that'll be PRESIDENT Barakc Hussein Obama to you in two weeks"

He rolled his eyes.

Jackass: "I'm afraid you're right. I'll be flying my flag at half-staff."

Me: "Hey, I wore black for the past 8 years."

OK, so the last line could have been cleverer, but I liked that "That's PRESIDENT Barack Hussein Obama."

17. I think your last line was GREAT!
I doubt I would have been quick enough to think of it myself, but if I didn't, it would, for me, surely have been one of those "Damn! I wish I'd said that" lines.

19. Thanks! There ARE folks who have said I missed my calling
in stand up comedy. On the other hand, some of my more conservative acquaintances, a few of them bosses, have somehow found me less than amusing. I've never understood why. When I was in high school, I worked part-time in a grocery store as a sacker. A guy I worked with who was a couple of years older than I was told me I was pretty smart, but my humor would ultimately get me in trouble. Looking back on it, I sometimes think that guy must have been a seer.

and probably other places as well. If you go to their home page, you will note they ascribe the acronym to the term "Here Everything's Better." One cannot blame them for this expansion of the acronym since in reality the chain was started by the Butt family (the "B" in HEB). Howard Edward Butt took over the store upon his return from World War I, and the rest, as they say, is history.

I'm sure she's a nice lady, and I bet her company probably sympathizes with her views. That said, I'm reminded about Michael Jordan's response about not endorsing a Democratic candidate in North Carolina: "Hey, Republicans buy shoes, too." She should leave politics out of her retail job.

27. I love the Michael Jordan response. It's so quintessentially
Capitalist piggish. And maybe the greeter should have left politics out of her retail job, but in fairness, I live in Houston. I wear my political shirts, in part, to raise consciousness. Some will react. I know that. I hope it doesn't result in my getting my ass kicked, but it might and if it does that's okay. Maybe I'll get my ass kicked (hopefully not by this woman greeter) or maybe I'll kick ass in defense, but either way I'll get their attention. It's a small price to pay to get this country back on track.

28. I have a job where I cannot delve into political discussion while working
I can't get into details, but my company engages in what I think I can fairly describe as state-level regulatory consulting. Due to the nature of our relationships with states, we must remain officially politically neutral. When asked by a state, we can give specific advice to questions like "if we do 'x', how much will it cost us" and we can present a range of outcomes. Suffice to say, I must do a lot of tounge biting when I meet with business owners, who frequently have walls covered with pics of George and Laura, and have Limbaugh on the radio.

22. How very odd
It sounds like the nice lady greeter was fine with calling Obama a terrorist, but when you called her heroes terrorists, suddenly she was not quite so nice about the name-calling. I wonder, if the next time she goes traipsing through the Bible, looking to cherry-pick verses to support her bigotry, she might not come across that passage that encompasses the Greatest Commandment?

Maybe it will mean something to her someday.
