Todd's Grandmother's Inuit jewelry collection for her earrings. She's managed to turn around what the Repugs gave her in clothes to shove it to them...by wearing her "cute thrift job jacket (shades of pink) and those stunning (really) earrings from Todd's Grandma to shove it back at us....

I don't think we (on the left) should have figured that "Sarah, Barracuda" would take that "trash of her wardrobe expenditures lying down."

She came back and bit us with her "thrift shop/heritage" counter.

Sarah Palin forgoes fancy campaign clothes

* October 27, 2008 - 8:47AM

Vice presidential hopeful Sarah Palin announced today she will forgo the expensive outfits purchased by the Republican Party for her campaign appearances, and from now on will appear on the stump wearing her own Alaska-bought clothes.

-snip-

"Those clothes are not my property, just like the lighting and the staging and everything else the RNC (Republican National Committee) purchased," said Palin.

"I'm not taking them with me. I'm back to wearing my own clothes from my favourite consignment shop in Anchorage, Alaska," she said, adding that she initially had hoped to "ignore this wardrobe thing", but instead has decided to address it head on.

The Politico website reported last week that the Republican leadership spent $US150,000 ($A222,816) on chic designer outfits for Palin, from such top-end retailers as Neiman Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue, plus hair care and make-up.

The expenses were couched as campaign accessories in a monthly RNC financial disclosure statement.

McCain's campaign defended the expenditures, saying the apparel will go to charity after the November 4 election.

Palin, who has described herself on the campaign trail as a moose-hunting hockey mom, told the crowd that her earrings, a gift from her mother-in-law, were also a product of her home state.

"These are from Todd's mom who is a native American up in Alaska. Native American. Native Alaskan. And my wedding ring, it's in Todd's pocket because it hurts when I shake hands. A $US35 ($A51) wedding ring from Hawaii that I bought myself.

"I always thought, it's not what it's made of. It's what it represents," Palin said.

"Twenty years later, happy to wear it."

She also pointed out that she was wearing a lapel pin in honour of her oldest son, who is serving with the US military.

"I'm a blue-star mom. I'm wearing this in honour of my son who is fighting over in Iraq right now," she said, before ending her inventory of her attire, saying "enough about clothes and hairdos and high heels".

Every time she brings up her alleged thrift shop purchases (alleged because she's lied about everything else so far), she just highlights the RNC's illegal purchases to begin with. But you're free to see doom and gloom if you like.

And if she does, then we can ask where her medical records are. This doesn't hurt us. Get it?

28. Well you know that Palin is just fine with "tolerating" those gays. You betcha!
She thinks they're just fine for doing her hair or helping her pick out clothes. She'll even use them for decorating tips. Yep, yep, she'll tolerate them for as long as they continue to be useful to her and don't complain too much.

It's a recurring theme in her ongoing power grab.

very transparent. she wore a thrift shop jacket once so far on the campaign trail.

Nice narrative for an idiot, but no one else is buying it.

150,000 on clothes

22,500 on make up for two weeks
10,000 on hair for two weeks

So, why is she wearing thrift shop clothes, when she has all of those other ones?

Oh, yeah, right -- another GOPPER gimmick.

They can try to sell crazy to their base, but I"m not buying it and neither is America. She is already the brunt of late night -- this one day thrift shop BS is just that.

And sorry, but how do we know she isn't lying? every other time she talks, she has lied.

She hasn't bit us -- she bit herself. Big time.

I think maybe some of us Dems thought it was an issue but we were blindsided by the way the Repugs would USE IT..against us...when Palin went back to her "Consignment Shop in Wasilla and raided her MIL's Jewelry box."

I think it was a "backfire." But, I don't think it will work against us...but I do feel many of us kind of "took the bait"...or was it the "Media that took the bait" and blamed it on the Dem Left?

29. CNN also seemed to feel this was newsworthy. I don't watch Fox...maybe they didn't cover it.
It's everywhere on the Media, today though. Repeat showing of her "Campaign Rally" where she made the statements about how she's now wearing Todd's Grandma's made earrings and her Consignment wardrobe from that shop in Alaska. But both Thursday and Friday of last week...Mika and Morning Joe folks made it a BIG ISSUE that continued on in coverage on MSBNC through out the night with Matthews, KO, Maddow and then on the day onto CNN and their Corporate Whore Anchors who hyped it and Saturday with Alex Witt and Betty Nguen on CNN and the rest of them.

Hey it was a quiet Weekend at Koko's house...where we were doing work with the TVee on and channel surfing while we went through our losing 401-K trying to figure out if we have anything left.

But as for the whole wardrobegate thing, every moment that the media, or palin, talks about $150,000 spent on clothing (or that she stopped wearing them) and not trashing Obama for being a Socialist or a terrorist, or a Muslim, or a Black Liberation Theologist, or a Marxist or whatever smear the mcRacist camp is trying to pin on him today, is a a day we win.

Remember, there are only nine days to the election. We want those moments to be focused on whatever they're doing wrong.

sadly for them, as the undecided graphs showed during the last debate, their "opinions" are worthless to the average American voter. They are more than irrelevant, and the more they shriek and hype the latest thing, the more irrelevant they become.

did he really think that one day spent in "thriftsville" would undo a lifetime spent on the graft of the American Tax payer?

LOL.

I know these people can be upsetting -- believe me, that's why I can't watch them. But have faith that the average american is on to the scam.

On a side note, when any of you go to donate clothes please consider state/county mental and vet hospitals and nursing homes. These places are usually terribly underfunded and many people don't realize the dire need of clothing for their patients. I've seen too many patients that have literally one outfit.

19. Sarah, sarah - barn door was left open and the clothes horse has already escaped.
I read here at DU about how the SNL crew had to wrestle with her over her clothes for the skit. As I recall the article, she wanted to wear her new "fancy" stuff; they pointed out that it would wreck the Tina Fey part of the skit if she showed up in nicer clothes than how she'd been portrayed, ie her new stuff fit better than the old. Sarah had balked by saying she'd "moved on" in the area of fashion since those first Tina portrayals.

They compromised by having her wearing her consignment stuff during the Baldwin segment, etc, and then allow her to wear her new clothes during the rap song part.

She didn't stop wearing her donor's dollars on her back until the backlash grew and esp. from the larger Republican donors. Then suddenly, she stops with the personal shopped clothes and tries to make her consignment wear a campaign issue. Her and that stupid shrill Hasselbeck spent more time on the whole clothing issue than it merited - we have stinking real issues facing Americans, and yet Palin jabbers mindlessly in defense of Clothing-Gate?

GO HOME Ms. Palin - you are too stupid for prime time.

(I think it was his mother he said..but Google it..you'll find the quote where he was trashed for saying to "support the 'look for the Union Label ditty') :-( Those clothes with "Union Label" are so old that no Consignment or even Thrift Shop would still have them in stock. Sad. But, they are worn out and gone...like our Textile Jobs and other Union Jobs here in America.

Although I am not a fan of Palin, I am a fan of thrift shops, consignment shops, or any other means of getting the full use out of things that would otherwise be discarded while still gently worn. I am also a fan of not spending more than I need to to get attractive, well fitting clothing. Sometimes that is last season's clothing discounted 50-80%, sometimes that is purchasing second hand clothing, sometimes it is sharing clothing among friends. Frankly, I'd rather put my money aside for retirement or spend it on other things that I find more important than making a clothes horse out of myself. I see no reason why I should hold the VP or president to different standards.

41. Actually I have a different slant on this
Palin finally hit that wall. Up to now she's been completely indifferent to anything anyone said about her. She isn't the type of person to back down from things. You can see it in here determination to keep attacking Obama as anti-American, not one of us, yada yada, pretending she doesn't hear anyone in her audience say what everyone else hears. She has brazenly gone out to do the hockey puck thing dragging her kid along so no one will boo her. She's really indifferent to how everyone feels about her. She uses her baby as a prop, just long enough to exit an airplane, or walk to the stage then immediately dumps him on another of her kids, using him at all hours and under all conditions. I don't know of any other woman who has ever done that with her children while campaigning. Even spouses aren't expected to be there all the time. It's a demanding and gruelling thing to campaign. Everyone knows that. And children and babies especially can't possible do well constantly flying with the changes in air pressure. She's singularly self centered and probably a narcissistic sociopath, so she truly isn't doing the thrifty routine our of caring. She's doing it because we, her critics are forcing her to, because our criticism is hurting her plans.

So this little act is just an act. She's pretending to be a thrifty person because it fits the image she keeps pushing of the regular hockey mom sixpack Jane real American lipstick pit bull ya betcha gal pokey small town redneck, and proud of it schtick. But my point is that the criticism made her do it. So now we know she bleeds, even if it's the blood drawn from attacking her political ambitions. It also shows just how much she covets power now that she's brushed shoulders with it.

And of course this will bring back all those idiots who really do have to go to thrift stores who'll think she's practically a god by now. She's really getting quite good at manipulating that crowd. But if she's gained any ground it's only been with the few who were beginning to back away from her. She's essentially back to where she started.

47. "But Mommy you said we were going to get all those fancy new clothes..."

"We were, Piper, but now those mean ol' liberals took them away from us. They don't want you to have nice things. They just want to spread the wealth around and take everything you have."

"Noooo, Mommy! I hate those liberals! Why are they always so mean to me?"

"Because that's the kind of people they are, Piper."

"Was it that man you don't like, the one with the dirty skin who doesn't worship Jesus? He's a bad man."

"Well, he didn't do it himse-.......yes, it was, Piper. It was Barack Obama who took your new clothes away and you have to tell everyone you know."

Even Stephen King said recently that the joke around his house is that Sarah Palin is Greg Stillson as a woman. Coming from the man who created The Dead Zone's Stillson--one of the most terrifying politicos in contemporary popular fiction--that's saying a lot.

48. Palin's explanations only satisfy her base.
She's got a chance of becoming the president ... of the John Birch Society.
