1. My 17 year old cat loves the Iams dry
I just dumped it out til I get the OK. Darn that makes me angry. As old as she is it's gonna be hard to get her to eat anything else.

3. Iams uses vivisection.
Since you've got to switch to another brand temporarily anyhow, please stay switched. Iams isn't an especially good food anyhow, and as far as ethics go, well, it's a Proctor and Gamble product, so it's about as bad as they get on that front.

My kitty's pretty fond of both Pet Promise and Newman's Own dry, though right now I've got her on wet food to fatten her up after a bit of an illness and some weight loss.

10. It only goes to prove that corporations are the source
of major problems in this country including the human food they produce. Notice the increase in diabetes, etc? It ain't all the fault the lack of exercise. Junk food is advertised and offered everywhere FOR PROITS ENRICHING CORPORATIONS. If you think corps give a damn about your health, you a prime customer for that Brooklyn Bridge.

4. Try making her food.
My dog is 19 (well she will be in May). I used to feed her Iams but a couple of years ago, I started making her food. It's incredibly easy. I cook up a couple of pounds of ground beef, add rice, a couple of bouillion cubes, wheat germ, and flax seed oil along with water and cook it up. I then freeze it in baggies. She loves it! I'm sure you could find a recipe for food for your kitty.

14. My cat made it to age 20 on homemade food -
- as he began to lose weight and body mass when he high the high teens. I started making him chicken liver, cutting it up fine and adding left over chicken or tuna to it. He was also fond of American cheese and scrambled eggs. And I liked knowing that he was really enjoying every meal right up to the end.

6. I wonder if this newly announced recall is connected?
Major dog food recall to be announced

(3/16/07 - WASHINGTON) - A major manufacturer of dog and cat food sold under Wal-Mart, Safeway, Kroger and other store brands recalled 60 million containers of wet pet food Friday after reports of kidney failure and deaths.

An unknown number of cats and dogs suffered kidney failure and about 10 died after eating the affected pet food, Menu Foods said in announcing the North American recall. Product testing has not revealed a link explaining the reported cases of illness and death, the company said.

"At this juncture, we're not 100 percent sure what's happened," said Paul Henderson, the company's president and chief executive officer.

The recall covers the company's "cuts and gravy" style food, which consists of chunks of meat in gravy, sold in cans and small foil pouches between Dec. 3 and March 6. The pet food was sold by stores operated by the Kroger Company, Safeway Inc., Wal-Mart Stores Inc. and PetSmart Inc., among others, Henderson said.

Menu Foods did not immediately provide a full list of brand names and lot numbers covered by the recall, saying they would be posted on its Web site -- www.menufoods.com/recall -- early Saturday. Consumers with questions can call (800) 551-7392.

7. What about pedigree.
I have had to use soft dog food for my dogs to give them medicine, and since I am on limited income, I use pedigree. It is made by Mars corporation so I think it may be safe but am afraid to go on giving it until I find out for sure. Now I have the nightly and morning doze of medicine to give and I have no idea of how I am going to do it.

If anyone knows if pedigree is safe, let me know so my life will be made a little easier. (both are old dogs and too smart to take capsules hidden in treats.)

8. I just ran a couple of news searchs on 'recall and pedigree' and
found nothing suggesting that Pegigree is part of this major recall.

If you can, run the search again for the next couple of days. If you want me to run the search for you, send me a private reply and I'll do it for you.

I'll do anything to protect our 'babies'...

11. Thanks,
I will probably just give them meds in human scrap food tonight and try calling the pedigree number again tomorrow. If I can't get anyone, I will try the given web site and/or do the google search. My daughter is out of town and probably unaware of this, or we would have to give her tranquilizers I'm sure.

We have had to give our one dog Chemotherapy for cancer last year, which weakened her system. The other dog has somehow gotten a bacterial skin infection and is being treated for that. They both have gotten tendon damage in one of their legs because they are lab mixed dogs that are almost ten years old. But no matter, they are still our babies.

Again, thank you.

15. This is scary. I buy Eukanuba dry food and I'm leery. I just looked
at the bag and didn't see those numbers above, but it's the same company. I think I'll go home made tomorrow.
