Even in the Hippy Stronghold of Eugene, Oregon, fake ballot boxes spring up.
From Lane County Online:

With the last two weeks before the General Election, "unofficial" ballot drop site locations are starting to spring up throughout Lane County.

"These are not affiliated with Lane County Elections," Annette Newingham, Lane County’s elections chief cautions.

There is no provision in Oregon Election Laws that prohibits "unofficial ballot collection sites"; however, Oregon Election Laws do require that a prominent sign be displayed at any such site in bold 50-point type, in capital printed letters "NOT AN OFFICIAL BALLOT DROP SITE".

With vote-by-mail, which is prevalent here, its disturbing to see that these sites are springing up- and that there is no law against it. I understand there are two sides to this issue but, really, there is no reason why third parties should ever be able to legally control the ballots of fellow citizens.

"Oh, look this one's from Miguel Hernandez- chuck it in the trash."

We've already had phone calls to Latinos around town saying they could vote "over the phone". Playing on ignorance to disenfranchise. Despicable.

1. WOW
I was just in Eugene a couple of weeks ago. It's a beautiful place. First time I'd been to Oregon and everything I saw I fell in love with.

3. Thanks, yes, things are beautiful here in Occupied Cascadia.
(Header comment meant as a political tease, homeland security need not get excited.)

I moved here in 1972 at age 18, and deeply love the place. It is a great place to ride bicycles with one of the best path systems in the country, and we have eleven percent of morning commuters bicycling to work here in Eugene.

Com back in the Spring, that's the best time to come if you want to do the place justice and stay a while.

2. Hippie is how it's spelled, and that stereotype is outdated
Not only that, but we are picking up ballots for people when we canvass, and the Obama Campaign monitors and controls security on any boxes we put out for people's convenience to put their ballots in to have them delivered.

So, what's your problem? I'm not a Hippie, but I look like one as a Member of the forest protection movement locally you can tell me, I'll listen to your beef. Maybe I'll laugh too, but I'll also listen.

4. Here is an article backing up my words:
"One of the boxes is set up at Barack Obama’s local office in downtown Eugene and Lane County Democrats plan to put them at various locations before Nov. 4.

“These are locked,” says George Grier with the Democratic Party of Lane County. “They’re kept in a secure location, and we deposit the ballots in and official Lane County drop site.”

The goal, Grier says, is to make voting as easy as possible for those who don’t mail their ballots."

10. Hey, no offense intended! I haven't used the word in so long....
...I forgot how to spell it. I was probably also subconsciously channeling my taste in women. :P

who say something boneheaded, just to get their full attention. Sometimes my guard is up, even in here at this forum, you are fine here. I live down here in the Whitaker Neighborhood and work at Food For Lane County. I used to work at Eugene Saturday and Portland Saturday Markets as well.

I am also the guy who nearly died being pulled from a tree in front of the Nike Store construction site down at Fifth Street public market in 1998 and has done many city tree sits, so you may have seen me.

Maybe I'll see you at the Strand down town or Sweet Life Pâtisserie in the 'hood, nice to meetcha.

8. Not only that, but the Obama Campaign doesn't even refuse to deliver a ballot
even if they voted Republican. Just like we did when we registered anyone, despite what party they were and whom they liked for POTUS.

Why, I'm sure FAUX News could drum up a decent witch hunt about this scandalous lack of partisan behavior, without even having to try very much.
