Covert? Not covert? Here's why the Plame issue proves the Repubs don't care about security. |
|
Partisan Republicans are excusing the outing of Plame as a CIA operative, whether covert or not, in order to protect some of their own. In the process they are advocating making America less safe.
It is a fact that Plame, whether covert or not, was an operative in the CIA's Counter-proliferation Division. Among her responsibilities was the facilitating of networks of operatives who gathered intelligence. Every single person working on any project in which Plame was involved has been lost as an operative.
As a direct and undeniable consequence, our government is now less able to effectively gather and process intelligence. That puts America at greater risk of a terrorist attack.
And many Republicans, for purely partisan reasons, are advocating for the position that this is acceptable.
This is one among many reasons why any future attack can be laid at the feet of these people who claim to so dearly love America.

But I'd say they're not so much excusing the outing of Plame as saying that it was really the outing of Mrs. Wilson.
The difference, you ask? Think about it. Who was known to be Wilson's wife and involved in his trip to Niger? Who was the Brewster Jennings employee?

as if the fact that they are currently in a questionable area of legality somehow makes it okay. Legally wrong is still wrong.
